SmokeFree Oxfordshire is the commissioned community stop smoking support to all residents across the county.
The Stop Smoking Advisor is central to the effective operation of the local team and will deliver client-led smoking cessation treatment via one-to-one, virtual and face-to-face appointment. You'll play a vital role in helping individuals transform their lives by quitting smoking and provide expert advice to empower people to overcome nicotine addiction and lead healthier lives.
Working in a dynamic and supportive environment, you'll engage with clients, develop personalised quit plans, and celebrate their successes. This is an opportunity to make a real difference in your community, helping people achieve their health goals and inspiring lasting change.
The role requires high levels of organisation, excellent communication skills, IT literacy and a positive approach to customer service. The successful candidate must have enthusiasm for helping others, have a clean driving licence and be willing to travel across Oxfordshire where necessary.
All of our team members undergo a rigorous training programme to ensure they are working to the highest standard and demonstrating evidence-based practice. Full training will be provided to ensure the post-holder is competent to support across a range of areas.
Main duties of the job
Explain to clients the principles of Stop Smoking so that they can make an informed choice regarding their treatment.
Motivate and empower clients to make behaviour changes.
Deliver a client-led treatment plan in concordance with national and local guidelines, effectively and professionally. This will include CO monitoring, the completion of accurate data to comply with NICE guidelines, and a comprehensive account of weekly interventions.
Deliver telephone and face-to-face support for clients.
Prescribe and distribute Nicotine Replacement Therapy products based on client needs.
Monitor outcomes of treatment programmes for their effectiveness.
Accurately inputting and maintaining the service’s database systems.
Develop and maintain close working relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
Ensure a commitment to own personal development by attending all team meetings and training as required and keeping up to date with research and best practice.
An outgoing personality with the ability to engage confidently and effectively with a vast spectrum of individuals and interest groups.
Continue and build new partnerships with existing and new stakeholders.
Commitment for addressing healthcare inequalities, and successfully reach out to vulnerable groups within the community, which could include people recovering from addictions, young parents, areas of deprivation and more.
Plan and organise workload, this will include the management of a caseload.
Deliver one to one, face-to-face clinics, which will have emphasis on supporting clients from local communities. These may be face to face or drop-in sessions.
Actively participate in promotional events which may include weekend working.
Work with local schools and colleges to understand and address smoking rates in young people.
Support the design and delivery of workshops. Presentations, and educational sessions in schools, community centres and other locations to promote the service.
