We are delighted to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well-integrated multidisciplinary sexual health team as a specialty doctor. The team you will be joining is dedicated to the provision of excellent quality sexual health care in Newcastle upon Tyne. The position is for 10 programmed activity sessions on a permanent basis, but we will consider applications from those wishing to work less than full time.
The appointee will join the existing multidisciplinary team including 4 other SAS doctors and see a variety of patients presenting with both GUM and contraception issues in a mixture of walk in and pre booked appointments. There will be an opportunity to develop their own area of interest according to their experience and needs of the department.

Main duties of the job
Clinical:
To assess symptomatic patients and perform relevant investigations to diagnose STIs including near patient microscopy and serology.
Administer treatment for STIs including intramuscular antibiotics and oral methods.
Promote sexual health through risk reduction advice and counselling regarding HIV prevention strategies; cervical screening, pregnancy testing, pre-abortion counselling, sterilisation counselling and sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening.
Prescribe HIV Pre-exposure prophylaxis (HIV PrEP) and manage complications associated with its use.
Provide counselling on and provision of all contraceptive methods to clinic users and if LoC IUT or LoC SDI holders to fit long acting contraceptive methods. If not current holders of LoC IUT or LoC SDI, training will be provided.
To ensure client confidentiality is maintained.
Be aware of and follow S4H policies, procedures and clinical guidelines.
To be aware of and adhere to the children’s safeguarding guidelines and procedures S4H safeguarding team.
To work as part of a multidisciplinary team
To provide specialist advice as required on sexual health matters to GPs and other medical and non-medical staff.
To work flexibly and meet the needs of the Integrated Sexual Health Service.
To promote and maintain the philosophy of a user-led and user-informed service.
Attend staff training meetings when possible.
To ensure that professional standards are maintained including revalidation of professional qualifications.
Undertake GMC revalidation, an annual appraisal and job plan review.
Managerial:
Participate in all aspects of clinical governance, contribute to multidisciplinary audit and risk management activities.
Administrative:
Ensure accurate electronic patient records are maintained.
To undertake general administrative duties within a context of compliance with S4H aims and objectives.
Teaching:
Participate in the teaching of undergraduate students and postgraduate trainees including GP trainees and specialty trainees from other specialties.
Participate in the teaching and training of any other health care professionals visiting the Sexual Health Services.
Research:
Participation in research is welcomed and S4H would support investigator initiated research as well as participation in NIHR portfolio adopted studies.
Before starting projects, appropriate steps should be taken to ensure that projects meet prevailing standards of research governance.

Personal Specification
The applicant must be a fully registered medical practitioner with at least four years of full-time postgraduate training, including two years in a relevant specialty training program such as general medicine, general practice, or gynecology, or possess equivalent experience and competencies. Additionally, the candidate must have at least 12 months of experience working in the NHS. Experience in contraception provision, along with an up-to-date Diploma of FSRH or equivalent experience, is required. Proficiency in subdermal techniques and intrauterine device insertion is advantageous. Ideal candidates will have previous experience in integrated sexual health or Genitourinary Medicine, with knowledge of near patient microscopy and HIV Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) being beneficial.
