Duties and Responsibilities

Carry out annual reviews delegated by a supervising Nurse or senior colleague

Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs

Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate, assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate programmes to promote health and well-being, and prevent adverse effects on health and well-being

Deliver opportunistic health promotion using opportunities such as new-patient medicals

Family Planning - Support and advise women requesting information relating to family planning needs and contraception

Able to document consultations according to NMC guidelines

Ensure awareness of statutory and local clinical adult and children safeguarding protection procedures, including systems of referral. Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse

Ensure all mandatory training is completed on an annual basis including; safeguarding, confidentiality, equality and diversity etc

Able to recognise and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines

Able to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines

Ability to obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written)

Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained

Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician

Assisting GPs with minor surgery, vasectomy and family planning clinics

Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs

Confidentiality of information gained at work must be preserved at all times

Assist in practice audits, CQC compliance evidence and QOF recalls

Take lead on local incentive project relevant to role

Cytology

Childhood Immunisations & Vaccinations

Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners or Senior Nurse to agreed protocols

Provide general and specific health screenings to the practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to general practitioners as necessary

Advise patients on general health care with referral to GPs as necessary

Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration and emergency equipment

Essential

• The Nursing Associate must meet the specific qualification and training requirements as specified in the Nursing Midwifery Standards of proficiency by having undertaken and completed the two year Foundation Degree delivered by a Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) - approved provider and is registered with the NMC and revalidation is undertaken in line with NMC requirements

Support elements of service evaluation and audit systems

Support the provision of required reports, statistical and qualitative information as part of wider PCN system, and for DHPL specific purposes

Support the monitoring of care quality and compliance with agreed standards

Contribute to QI approaches with PCN partners to continue the growth and evolution of the services for the community we serve

Flexible working and self-management of working time effectively and accordingly to service demands

Professional

To adhere to local and professionally prescribed codes of ethical conduct and practice

To attend all mandatory training as required by the Trust and to undertake further training and updating as required to carry out the role

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Qualifications
• Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register
• Nursing Associate foundation degree qualification
• GCSE Grade A-C in Maths & English or skills level 2 Maths & English or equivalent
• Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the nursing and interdisciplinary team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development
• Understands and acts in line with NMC professional standards for practice contained within The Code.
• Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice
• Understand requirements for NMC professional Revalidation
• Understanding of the importance of following procedures and treatment plans

Experience

Essential

• Experience of working in teams under appropriate supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate
• Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information
• Ability to take part in reflective practice and clinical supervision activities
• Ability to organise and prioritise own delegated workload
• Ability to deal with non- routine and unpredictable nature of workload and individual patient contact
• Ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and non verbal communication) with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
• Ability to develop effective and appropriate relationships with people, their families, carers and colleagues
• Ability to support, supervise, assess and act as a role model to nursing associate students, other learners and health care support workers as required within the clinical setting.
