Job summary

Cheswold Park Hospital located in the heart of Doncaster specialises in forensic mental health services with 113 registered beds, over 9 wards and over 400 staff. We are dedicated to providing comprehensive care and treatment to individuals requiring special treatment and interventions across a range of services covering Mental Health, Personality Disorder, Womens and Autism support. We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Turnaround Director to take over the leadership of our team as part of the succession planning by our existing CEO. We are seeking evolution and not revolution and the successful candidate will have the benefit of mentorship from our current CEO.

Position Overview:

As the Turnaround Director, you will play a pivotal role in reshaping both the short term and long-term future of our forensic hospital. You will be responsible for assessing our current operations, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing strategic changes to enhance the quality of care, safety, and efficiency. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and a passion for transforming healthcare delivery in a forensic setting.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

Assessment and Analysis:

Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the hospital's current operations, processes, and financial health.

Analyse performance metrics, patient outcomes, and stakeholder feedback to identify areas in need of improvement.

Strategic Planning:

Develop and implement a strategic turnaround plan with clear objectives and measurable goals.

Collaborate with key stakeholders to gain buy-in and support for the turnaround initiatives.

Operational Improvement:

Oversee all aspects of hospital operations, including staffing, budgeting, and resource allocation.

Implement operational changes to enhance efficiency, stabilise costs, and improve patient care.

Quality Assurance:

Establish a culture of continuous improvement and implement quality assurance programs to ensure the highest standards of care.

Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of clinical practices and treatment modalities.

Safety and Security:

Enhance safety measures and security protocols to create a secure and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.

Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

Team Leadership:

Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, administrators, and support staff.

Foster a collaborative and engaged workforce focused on the hospital's turnaround goals.

As the Turnaround Director at Cheswold Park Hospital, you will hold a pivotal role in the leadership and management of our specialised healthcare facility dedicated to providing forensic services for male & female patients across Mental Illness, Personality Disorders and Autism pathways. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the hospital's operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care. This role demands strong leadership, people management skills, and a commitment to safety and security for patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership & Culture:

Develop and implement the hospital's strategic vision, goals, and objectives in alignment with the organization's mission and values.

Maintain a culture of kindness and the prevention of abuse and or closed cultures.

Lead the hospital's efforts to continuously improve services in response to changing patient needs, Provider Collaborative requirements and industry best practices.

To ensure the Hospital meets its key performance indicators which will be determined by the Board of Directors in agreement and collaboration with the post holder.

2. Operational Oversight:

Manage the day-to-day operations of the hospital, including staffing and resource allocation.

Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.

To participate in the Hospital Directors on call rota.

3. Clinical Appreciation:

Collaborate with the clinical team to maintain and enhance high standards of care, evidence-based treatment, and therapeutic interventions for patients.

To promote patient involvement through all committees.

Promote effective communication and collaboration among multidisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, security personnel, and support staff.

Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development among staff.

4. Contract Performance:

Lead contract negotiation with commissioners and maintain oversight and management of KPIs performance.

5. Safety and Security:

Develop and implement comprehensive security measures and protocols to ensure the safety of staff, patients, and the community.

6. Quality Assurance:

Monitor and assess the quality of services provided, identifying areas for improvement and implement quality assurance initiatives.

Conduct regular reviews of clinical documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.

7. Compliance:

Ensure strict adherence to all relevant laws, regulations, and policies, including those related to patient rights, confidentiality, and security.

Oversee the hospital's compliance with accreditation requirements.

8. Workforce

To make Cheswold Park Hospital a great place for staff to work, ensuring recruitment, training and retention of staff is placed foremost in developing safety and workforce stability.

To provide leadership and guidance on equality, diversity and inclusion across the hospital.

To line Manage SLT members and ensure their individual learning needs and development are met in line with departmental objectives.

9. Relationships

To ensure effective working relationships with Provider Collaboratives, NHSE and other key stakeholders including the CQC, Safeguarding Home Office.

To establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff across all areas ensuring effective communication to all.

10. Education and Development

To provide advice, support and Managerial supervision to senior colleagues across the hospital including ensuring supervisions and appraisals are not only completed within the required time but are effective.

To ensure mandatory and statutory training is always up to date and in line with the hospitals needs.

Ensure that the site compliance for all training is in line with the hospitals targets.

To consider skill gaps within the staffing team and to ensure a robust and time-driven plan is in place to ensure continuous improvement.
