The Clinical Lead ADHD role is pivotal in leading the design, development and implementation of a comprehensive adult ADHD assessment, diagnosis and treatment service. This role will recruit, manage and mentor a team of clinicians, and provide expert clinical oversight for all aspects of the service, ensuring the highest standards of care.

The Clinical Lead ADHD role will be integral to the organisations governance structures and will be a member of the Clinical Governance Committee, which is chaired by the Medical Director and reports to Medefers Board.

As a Clinical Lead and as part of a wider team, you will be involved in successfully networking with local clinicians and healthcare providers (both NHS and Private), implementing the new ADHD service and then performance monitoring it.

The role is remote working and equates to 1PA per week (4 hours), and the expectation is that the work will be done outside of your NHS working hours and any other work that you may do.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Service Development:

Lead the design, development, and implementation of a comprehensive adult ADHD assessment, diagnosis, and treatment service.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure clinical pathways are efficient, patient-focused, and aligned with the latest ADHD guidelines.

Develop and oversee the implementation of automated workflows for pre-assessment, clinical assessments, and post-assessment follow-up, aiming to optimise clinician time and improve patient outcomes.

Clinical Leadership:

Provide expert clinical oversight for all aspects of the ADHD service, ensuring the highest standards of care to include coordinating the response to any issues raised by patients, families or other healthcare providers.

Ensure compliance with relevant clinical guidelines, including NICE and DSM-5 criteria for ADHD diagnosis and treatment.

Support the integration of automation tools to streamline patient care (e.g., automated assessment tools, digital symptom tracking, e-prescribing, and follow-up reminders).

Monitor and evaluate clinical outcomes and use data-driven approaches to make continuous improvements.

Attend regular Clinical Lead and Medefer Clinical Governance meetings.

  • Be available to attend clinical pathway / engagement meetings with partners and external stakeholders when reasonably possible.

Team Leadership and Development:

Recruit, manage, and mentor a team of clinicians, including but not limited to psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and Allied Health professionals.

Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture within the team, promoting continuous learning and professional development.

  • Undertake regular reviews and audits of clinician performance under their purview and provide feedback on an ongoing basis.
  • Support the HR department to ensure that your clinical team meet the requirements for practicing privileges
  • Oversee and deliver the annual appraisal process for departmental clinicians as appropriate.
  • Provide leadership for developing Medefers evolving model of care, encompassing clinical effectiveness, patient safety and patient experience.

Quality and Governance:

Ensure clinical governance and regulatory compliance, including safeguarding, data protection, and Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements.

Lead on clinical audits, outcome reporting, and service improvement initiatives.

Ensure that data collected through automated systems is used effectively for patient care, quality control, and service development.

  • Promote and lead a culture of safety and quality, enacting Medefers policies including the Significant Events and Complaints policies. Point of escalation for departmental concerns.
  • Input into the development and implementation of the departmental Clinical Workforce Strategy.
  • Support the Chief Medical Officer (Responsible Officer) and Medical Director to ensure that Medefer meets the requirements for the Care Quality Commission and clinical quality components of our contractual obligations.

Work with the Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director to implement Medefers Vision and Strategy.

  • Membership and attendance of the Clinical Governance Committee, in accordance with the responsibilities set out in its terms of reference.

Stakeholder Engagement:

Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including the executive team, to align service delivery with strategic goals.

Provide clinical advice and support to the Service Delivery team, to facilitate the delivery of a high quality and performing service.

Act as a liaison with external organisations, including healthcare commissioners, insurers, and patient advocacy groups, to promote the service and ensure referrals.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

Essential:

Registered healthcare professional with a recognised qualification in psychiatry.

Substantial clinical experience working in adult mental health, with a strong focus on ADHD assessment and management.

Proven experience in leading and managing clinical services, with a track record of implementing efficient processes and workflows.

Knowledge and experience with using digital health tools and technologies to improve clinical service delivery.

Strong understanding of clinical governance and regulatory requirements (e.g. CQC).

Passionate about improving mental health care and delivering high-quality, patient-centred services.

Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage teams and collaborate across departments.

Strategic thinker, with a focus on efficiency, innovation, and continuous improvement.

The time commitment and payment equates to 1 PA per week (4 hours) but it is understood that this will be worked flexibly.

It is acknowledged that Medefer is a growing organisation and that the time requirements for the role will likely increase. Through mutual discussion this might be met through extending the time commitment of the lead and / or recruiting deputies.
