Main duties of the job

To deliver a professional service, producing high quality diagnostic imaging for multiple specialties. Delivering exceptional patient care, maintaining accurate record keeping and observing national and local guidance.

Job responsibilities

Communication

Communicate and work closely with Radiologists and consultants in setting up policies and protocols for all MRI imaging and patient pathways.

Excellent verbal, written interpersonal communication skills.

Communicate effectively with the Multidisciplinary team in order to promote efficient patient care and maintain effective channels of communication both with staff and patients.

To maintain staff morale and contribute through a positive and proactive example in communication and leadership

Liaise with other clinical areas as necessary for the co-ordination of patient care.

Planning & Organising

Adapt organizational and problem-solving skills with patients and service focused approach and strong clinical decision-making skills.

Proven experience in organizing sessions in MRI.

Comply with implementation of guidelines e.g. NICE, where appropriate, in line with Quality Governance.

To assist in ensuring the safety of the department and the risk management process by actively participating in clinical risk and quality issues, including the reporting and management of clinical incidents.

Attend MRI safety group meetings when required.

Be familiar with the 6 pillars of Clinical Governance.

Analytical

Good knowledge of current trends and development in MRI equipment, techniques and advancements

Previous experience of reviewing and standardising protocols

To promote reflective practice and learning in order to ensure that patient care is research based, appropriate and responsive to patients needs.

Demonstrates understanding and adheres to the organisations Safeguarding Policies

To participate in Audits and Quality Assurance programmes within the MRI department, including the use of Audit tools in order to deliver a service.

Tasks Specific Skills

Have experience on a 1.5T MRI machine, GE preferable.

Perform intravenous (IV) cannulation for patients undergoing MRI, and administer IV drugs and contrast agents according to locally approved PGDs, and local & national protocols. This involves ascertaining the patients suitability for IV drugs and taking joint responsibility for the potential complications under the indirect supervision of radiologists.

Adhere with Quality Assurance checks daily.

To ensure equipment in the MRI department is regularly maintained and where required, repaired or replaced on a timely basis.

Work closely with the MRI safety advisor to comply with safety standards and to set up new protocols.

Training and Professional Development

Participate and complete E- learning in a timely manner and attend practical and in-house training.

Annual attendance of Intermediate Life Support (ILS)

Participate in clinical supervision

To support the dissemination of information regarding new or updated clinical practices, guidelines and policies to radiology staff.

Health & Safety

Competent in maintaining full safety standards in MRI.
