Job
Description
To
work alone in a specified setting under indirect supervision (i.e. via
telephone.)
To process bookings for all modalities;
MRI, Ultrasound and X-ray.
To
work independently, with delegated responsibility, undertaking duties in
relation to the departmental administration/organization with direction and
supervision from a Radiographer.
To
be responsible for ensuring all relevant enquiries referring to the Radiography
department are handled efficiently and effectively, liaising with patients,
Consultants and other relevant hospital staff.
To
provide assistance to the Radiographers by undertaking delegated tasks as
required.
Chaperone
patients during imaging procedures.
Care
for the patient's needs and attend to their welfare in accordance with safe
working practice.
Assist
the radiographer/specialists to transfer and positioning of patients and
equipment using appropriate manual handling techniques.
To
encourage and motivate patients with their radiology examinations.
To
contribute to the maintenance of accurate written and electronic records using
the specific radiology reporting systems and use of diary and records with
guidance from registered staff.
Preparation
and care of patients during and following their examination, as appropriate.
Assisting
in injection/drainage/biopsy procedures (laying of sterile trolleys, correctly
labelling, correct record keeping and delivery of samples).
To
complete local safety WHO checklist pre and post procedures, where appropriate.
To
complete patient safety questionnaires with the patient within the MRI unit,
this will be checked and signed off by the MRI radiographers.
To
demonstrate physical ability to carry out Radiology investigations including safer
handling techniques. E.g. use of wheelchairs, hoists, pat slides
Provides
clerical and technical cover as required.
To
work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and provide support and advice to
other members as required
To
be responsible for planning and prioritising own designated workload and manage
time effectively.
To
participate with the multidisciplinary team in the care of patients undergoing
non interventional and interventional radiological procedures e.g, Ultrasound
scans Joint Injections, Biopsies, Drainages, etc.
Communication
To
provide a high standard of customer care by developing a rapport with client
and promote good working relationships at all times.
To
be able to motivate and persuade others through good communication skills, with
the benefit of verbal and non-verbal skills, using written and electronic
information where needed.
To
demonstrate the ability to communicate routine information to patient, carers
and other staff, where there may be barriers to communication e.g. language
barriers, hearing loss, lack of understanding, pain etc.
Gather
and collect information to plan intervention/liaise with others.
To
maintain close links, and communicate effectively with all staff and people
involved in patient care, including ward staff and doctors.
To be aware of how to
resolve conflict and verbal complaints and to follow the organisations' formal
complaints procedure.
Planning
& Organizing
To
perform enquiries regarding patient data on the PACS and CC8 systems and
updating accordingly.
Complete
patient records/care pathway, print and/or result notifications of radiology
reports in keeping with own capabilities
Checking
patients clinical and non-clinical detail and taking notes of contraindications
prior to procedures
Prepare
Radiography/MRI/Ultrasound rooms ready for radiography procedures
Monitor/maintain
stock levels, replace/replenish as required.
To
perform daily patient list checks, ensuring that the manual patient list
matches the order information on CC8/Compucare.
Maintaining
necessary records and statistics.
Have high access to highly
confidential information and the need to respect this confidentiality is of the
utmost importance

the importance of local audits and how they aim to safeguard high quality care
of patients and contribute to HMT governance.

in departmental meetings.

All staff have an individual
responsibility for creating accurate records of their work, making entries
into, and managing all patient records effectively in line with all the health
record keeping policies and procedures in order to meet the hospitals legal,
regulatory and accountability requirements.
Tasks Specific Skills
Assisting
the Radiographers by acting as a chaperone and supporting both the
radiographer/specialist, and the patient throughout a radiological procedure.
To
participate in the efficient day to day running of the Radiology
Department/Service.
To
plan and organise a delegated workload with regards to patients priorities
To
be responsible for preparing and maintaining equipment used in carrying out
Radiology duties and to adhere to departmental policies.
To
carry out administrative and clerical duties in relation to the service
including maintenance of client records, recording and collating patient
contacts, liaising with patients and carers.
To
be flexible in the approach to the job as it may be necessary to undertake
different duties as requested by the Radiographer/specialist whenever necessary
to assist in the general running of the service.
Maintain
confidentiality, equality and dignity at all times
Demonstrate
commitment to training and development by taking every reasonable opportunity
to maintain and update knowledge, competence and skill and assisting new
members to the team by demonstrating own duties in a professional manner
Be
up to date with competencies and relevant training before completing specific
patient care tasks.
Acquire
& maintain Intermediate Life Support (ILS) training (refresher: annually,
as per required)
Acquire
& maintain Moving and Safer handling training.
Complete
Health & Safety Executive, Display Screen Equipment (DSE) checklist (for
episodes of screen time of >60mins) to comply with H&S (DSE) Regulation
1992.
Maintain
appearance and behavior in accordance with HMTs uniform policy
Comply
with HMTs policies and procedures.
Cleaning
and general hygiene tasks in the examination areas, including re-stocking in
work areas. To clean and maintain the clinical areas, materials and equipment.
Stocktaking
of designated consumable.
Training
and Professional Development
To
participate in formal induction and complete core competencies training.
To
undertake relevant radiographic assistant training when the opportunity for
this becomes available, based on service need and demand.
To
participate in the annual staff appraisal and supervision scheme and identify
key performance objectives and continuing educational needs.
To
be an active member of any in service training programme provided, including
staff meetings, mandatory training, peer review, community meetings etc. and
attend identified external courses where appropriate.
To
demonstrate an understanding of clinical governance and risk management and
apply to work situation.
To
be responsible for own development activities and recording this with the
supervision and guidance of senior staff.
Up to date with any
mandatory training e.g. E-learning and courses provided by HMT
Health & Safety
To take reasonable care to prevent
injury to themselves or others who may be affected by their acts or omissions
To co-operate fully in discharging HMT
policies and procedures with regard to health and safety matters
To immediately, report to their
manager any shortcomings in health and safety procedures and practice
To report any accidents or dangerous
incidents to their immediate manager and safety representative as early as
possible and submit a completed accident / incident form
Ensure correct personal protective
equipment is used
