Main duties of the job

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

To provide clinical care within the specialist field of physiotherapy, encompassing physiotherapy assessment, treatment and management of patients and the assistance and education of colleagues.

Dimensions:

Clinical area: Musculoskeletal outpatients, post discharge surgical patients

ROLE OF DEPARTMENT:

The Physiotherapy service sits within the Outpatient department

Key responsibilities of the service are:

  • Provision of physiotherapy care to patients mainly Musculoskeletal outpatients and post discharge surgical patients

Clinical:

  • To act independently to assess, analyse and provide a clinical diagnosis for individual patients to determine their need for physiotherapy intervention within your specialist area.
  • To act independently to plan, implement, evaluate, treat and progress patient care to maximise rehabilitation potential within your specialist area.
  • To manage case load of patients effectively and efficiently
  • To maintain patient documentation, records and accurate statistical information to reflect care provided and comply with professional standards.
  • To develop, implement and maintain appropriate clinical guidelines ensuring clinical effectiveness to optimise patient care.

Managerial:

  • To participate in the departmental personal development and performance review system to promote personal and service development.

Educational:

  • To develop and update clinical knowledge and skills in your specialist area to ensure delivery of evidence based care.

ASSIGNMENT AND REVIEW OF WORK:

  • Clinical caseload will be generated by the specific service needs. Work independently on a day to day basis.

  • Senior Management Team will provide induction to the hospital and department.

Decisions and Judgements:

  • Make evidence based decisions on diagnosis and treatment.
  • Prioritise caseload.
  • Plan service development with management and colleagues.
  • Ability to adapt to the unpredictable and varied demands of both clinical and managerial workload.
  • Work independently, without support directly from professional colleagues.
  • Maintain and continually develop clinical knowledge in appropriate specialism.
