Main duties of the job

This role is key in delivering an exceptional, effective structured diabetes education service for patients across the UK (evening and weekend availability is required). Flexibility is required and offered.

  • Delivery of the EMPOWER programme to patients
  • Delivery of face-to-face courses within the advertised area and occasional video courses
  • Ensuring our EMPOWER programmes are delivered in accordance with the curriculum, syllabus, educator handbook, lesson plan and service(s) Operating Manual
  • Ensure delivery of the EMPOWER programme in accordance with all Spirit policies and procedures

The postholder will deliver diabetes education courses to patients referred to our service to enable them to live well with diabetes.

What am I aiming to achieve? (Outcomes)

  • The post holder undertakes training and passes competence assessment to deliver diabetes education
  • Diabetes education is delivered in an inclusive and interactive manner which allows for questions and discussion on the topics covered
  • Delivery of education is patient centred and allows for a variety of learning styles to support cognitive learning
  • The educator introduces and covers each topic following the curriculum closely
  • Educators reflect on the session, identify what went well, what went less well and what changes could be made.

How I will know I have succeeded? (Success Measures)

  • The postholder undertakes training on the curriculum and lesson plan, delivers courses, passes a competency assessment and is accredited
  • The courses are delivered using the most up to date content
  • The courses achieve a consistently high patient feedback score
  • The educator understands the administration and course organisation process undertaken by the administration team
  • The educator ensures that attendance is recorded on the database
  • The educator responds promptly to administrator queries

What will I do? (Responsibilities)

  • Delivery of interactive structured diabetes education programmes in accordance with the set curriculum and lesson plan
  • Use a range of sound teaching and learning techniques to improve participants ability to self manage their diabetes
  • Ensure the course is delivered using the most up to date programme content
  • Understand the administration and course organisation process undertaken by the administration team
  • Ensure all paperwork is completed, eg, attendance sheet, quality of life questionnaires, goal setting ad action plans and satisfaction surveys
