Job summary
Spencer Private Hospitals are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Surgical First Assistant to provide specialist care within our busy operating Theatres.
The post holder will perform and assist in all aspects of surgical procedures to an expert level in line with personal competencies. They will be a point of knowledge for junior team members and act as a mentor to health professionals who wish to gain competencies within the field of surgery. The post holder will work with consultants in delivering and maintaining a high standard of surgical care before, during and after surgery.
We undertake a multiplicity of surgical procedures which include - but are not limited to - general surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology, ENT and colorectal patients. This post is clinical responsible to the consultant surgeon as a member of the surgical team.
The post holder is professional accountable for their own actions and advanced practice and must comply with local policies and procedures of the Trust and work within the boundaries of personal competencies and professional codes of performance, conduct and ethics.
You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high quality patient centred care and maintaining professional standards within the theatre setting. This is an exciting opportunity for a compassionate, forward thinking, experienced SFA who is ready to be part of a skilled team.
Main duties of the job
To perform operating department duties under the direction of the Clinical Director and assist the Consultants and work colleagues in a professional manner to ensure the smooth running, efficiency and high standards of patient care and safety. To maintain professional and individual accountability.
Surgical First Assistants (SFA) practice as part of the surgical team, under the direct supervision of the operating surgeon.
The post holder will perform and assist in all aspects of surgical procedures to an expert level in line with personal competencies. The post holder will work with consultants in delivering and maintaining a high standard of surgical care before, during and after surgery.
30 per week. 7.5, 15, 22.5 hours will be considered. Hours are worked across a 7 day working rota. Please specify your preference on the application form. Currently most theatre work is scheduled during the evenings and weekends. Start times in the evenings are from 17:00 pm. Weekend work consists of 08:00 am - 18.00 pm. Flexibility is essential with finish times.
We offer enhancements for Saturdays and any work between 8pm and 7.30am on weekdays at time +30% of your basic salary rate. For Sundays and Bank Holidays at time + 60% of your basic salary rate.
