Job summary

We are looking for a friendly, flexible and motivated Health care assistant, to join our forward-thinking ward at Spencer Private Hospital in Margate.

Working closely with a team of individuals who provide a professional and competent service in the delivery of health care across the company, youll play a key role in supporting patients who access our services for elective clinical procedures. Delivering and evaluating high standards of evidenced based care to a diverse group of individuals.

The ward delivers high-quality care across a varied range of specialties including, Orthopedic, general surgery and Gynecology services,

The ward consists of 22 single rooms with ensuite facilities.

Interview Date: Week commencing 16th February 2026

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for undertaking and recording a comprehensive delivery of care without direct supervision, is accountable for the care delivered and omissions of care. Working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, contributing to effective communication, continuity of care, and service improvement initiatives.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills, participate in training and supervision, and adhere to all infection control, safeguarding, and health & safety standards.

Deliver compassionate, evidence-based nursing care in line with clinical guidelines and trust values that incorporate Care, Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Teamwork and empathy promoting a positive patient experience

Job description

Job responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

To actively participate in the delivery of a high standard of vital patient centred care

To assist in the delivery of clinical and nonclinical care and safety support clinical staff under team supervision

To participate within a team led environment to the smooth running of the ward and the positive experience of patients that embraces a positive provision of services

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

To be able to interact with other employees, medical staff, consultants, patients and the public

To act in such a manner as to justify public trust and confidence and to always uphold the good standing and reputation of Spencer Private Hospitals

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

To be able to assist with the maintenance of patients hygiene needs ensuring privacy and dignity is maintained.

To report any changes in patients condition or care protocol to the trained staff.

To undertake all training annually

The ability to recognise deteriorating patients and assist if an emergency occurs

To make legible entries in patient documentation, including instructions, requests for investigations, changes in care protocols or patient conditions, with all entries being counter-signed by a trained nurse

Convey any verbal instructions and messages to the appropriate person

Participate in Face to Face and Online Training and Staff Meetings

Assist with the handling and movement of patients in line with Manual Handling Regulations

Escort patients to other departments within the trust

Undertake observations of blood pressure, pulse, temperature, urinalysis, height and weight, BMI and glucose monitoring and recording results in documentation and conveying results to a trained nurse. Ensure out of range results are immediately conveyed to clinical staff

Collection, recording and delivery of specimens to pathology following competency.

Phlebotomy

Record ECGs following Competence

Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions.

Participate in the Cleaning of the equipment and ward

Stock up the unit with consumables and monitor stock levels

Participate in the monitoring, servicing and checks of equipment and report any faults in equipment.

Undertake dressing procedures following local recommendations, complying with infection control principles and practice.

Give accurate and appropriate information to patients and groups within own competence.

Provide support and encouragement to patients to promote independence as appropriate.

Act as a chaperone, when requested.

Preparation of documentation as directed by clinical staff.
