Job summary

We are looking for a friendly, flexible and motivated Registered Nurse to join our forward-thinking ward at Spencer Private Hospital in Margate.

Working closely with a team of individuals who provide a professional and competent service in the delivery of health care across the company, you'll play a key role in supporting patients who access our services for elective clinical procedures. Delivering and evaluating high standards of evidenced based care to a diverse group of individuals.

The ward delivers high quality care across a broad range of specialities including, Orthopaedic, general surgery and Gynaecology services.

Our sites are based within EKHUFT and this position is working at the Margate site.

Main duties of the job

JOB PURPOSE

To actively participate in the delivery of a high standard of vital patient centred care in a compassionate and caring manner

To assess care needs and develop, implement and evaluate these without supervision

To practice in accordance with the NMC codes, The Code (2018) and any other mandatory or organisational standards

To participate in and contribute to the implementation of change strategies aimed at improving professional practice and the overall efficiency of the ward or department

To participate within a team led environment to the smooth running of the ward and the positive experience of patients that embraces a positive provision of services

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Professional

The post holder will be expected to work across all areas of Spencer Private hospitals within their role remit

Maintain the core patient care standards and to assist with the implementation of changes to care delivery systems, methods and nursing practice to bring about improvements in the quality and delivery of care

To contribute to the development and implementation of nursing standards which reflect customer requirements and professional best practice

Provide professional leadership, advice and guidance within the team, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team

Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records in line with professional standards

Have responsibility for the administration and custody of medicines in line with Spencer Private Hospitals (SPH) policy and professional standards

Assist in the maintenance of professional standards, highlighting to the line manager when standards are not seen to be met

Uphold the corporate values of SPH

Clinical

Undertake nursing assessments competently

Maintain accurate clinical observations of the patient and act accordingly on findings

To take on management responsibility for the ward in the absence of a ward Sister/Charge Nurse or ward Manager

Act as the patient advocate

Be clinically competent in all areas of advanced practice relevant to the post

Participate in taking an active role in managing a safe discharge for patients in a timely and effective manner

Ensure own professional knowledge is continuously updated

Financial

Actively implement the safe nursing tools in line with care dependency, occupancy and clinical patient hours and utilise the information effectively regarding safe patient care and safe staffing

To contribute with the monitoring and control of resources allocated to the Ward in order to provide best value for patients

To understand local resources management and the cost implications of service delivery staffs suggestions for improvements in the financial performance of the Ward

Quality

Contribute to monitoring of quality improvement metrics to measure quality of care

Identify and minimize clinical and non-clinical risk to minimize risk of harm to patients, staff and visitors

To participate in staff Personal Development Discussions and the identification of personal needs and set and evaluate personal objectives

To participate in in-house training sessions and attend meetings and discussions when required

To ensure that all hospital policies, local policies and legal requirements relating to clinical care and health and safety are complied with

Monitor all aspects of clinical governance locally including clinical incident reporting

Participate in the annual review of departmental policies and procedures to ensure they reflect good practice. Work towards retaining external audit accreditation with ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001

The ability to recognise deteriorating patients and assist if an emergency occurs

Maintain professional development in line with the NMC
