Bladder and Bowel Service Specialist Nurse

Are you a Specialist Nurse looking for a change? We have an opportunity to join our Bladder and Bowel Service as a Specialist Nurse.

We will make sure you are fully inducted and trained; there will be regular constructive supervision in place. Its important to us that you feel safe and supported in your clinical decision making.

  • Youd be suited to this role if you have experience in working within a primary or community care setting, and if you have experience of caring for patients with bladder, bowel and continence issues. 
  • Youll need experience of supervising other team members and will need effective leadership skills
  • Due to the nature of the work, youll need access to regular transport in order to travel to patients homes, and to clinics. 

Main duties of the job

Whats the role?

  • Youll be a senior member of the team ensuring the physical, psychological and social assessment of our patients.
  • Youll enable the patient or carer to develop the skills to self-manage their condition, whilst working in both clinics and at patients homes.
  • Youll provide clinical and supervisory leadership to our team, supporting our Specialist Nurse Lead.

Contract type:

This is a permeant full time contract, working Monday - Friday 7.5 hours per day.

The Bladder and Bowel Service is run by Suffolk GP Federation. We are a not-for-profit, community interest company and our main purpose is to support Primary Care across Suffolk, including support with working collaboratively and at scale. We also deliver a portfolio of NHS services across Suffolk and North East Essex, including Podiatry, Ultrasound, Diabetes, as well as Urgent Care Services including the Out of Hours face-to-face Service in Suffolk.

Job responsibilities

Job Purpose

The post holder will provide clinical and supervisory leadership to junior staff, deputise, and take responsibility of the Bladder and Bowel Service in the absence of the Senior Nurse Specialist. The post holder will be required to be jointly responsible with the Senior Nurse Specialist for the day-to-day planning and delivery of continence care.

The post holder will manage a caseload of clients with multiple and complex needs, and will use evidence of based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. There will also be a requirement to provide specialist nursing input into planning, development, and evaluation of clinical services within the team, with responsibility for defined project.

Main duties & responsibilities:

To be accountable for the physical, psychological, and social assessment of the patient in the set caseload.

To be responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating the needs of patients and their families.

To support in enabling the patient to develop the skills to self-manage their condition.

To deliver patient care in the patients home or in clinics

To collect and collate patient activity and outcomes, using clinical and patient experience audit to improve service delivery.

To participate and initiate research using governance principles.

To maintain patient confidentiality by working by the Caldicott and data protection guidelines.

To resolve any potential complaints against the service, with and in the absence of the Service Manager.

To promote and demonstrate research based practice by continuous education of self and others within the service.

To at as a role model to medical and other healthcare students, providing up to date information, advice, and practical skills.

To ensure CPD framework is implemented and an up-to-date PDR is in place.

To use a tool kit approach to the development and maintenance of complex skills, using tools such as; case management and nurse prescribing.
