An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and skilled Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Nurse Specialist to become a Band 7 IPC Nurse Specialist within the Integrated Care Board's IPC Team.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be based in the specialty of Infection Prevention and Control within the Nursing & Quality Directorate and will be an experienced practitioner who develops and uses their knowledge and skills to support the prevention, management, monitoring and control of infection.
They will work under the supervision of the Lead Nurse for Infection Prevention and Control and work in conjunction with integrated care systems partnership organizations and will support the management and prevention of infection through.
- Monitoring that robust processes are in place within provider organizations to demonstrate compliance with national standards for IPC, including the Health and Social Care Act 2008: Code of Practice on the Prevention and Control of Infections
- Provision of expert advice with a focus on Primary Care and care homes and management of complex patients within own homes setting
- Supporting IPC by promoting, advocating and enabling best infection prevention and control practice through developing relationships with and health and social care providers across BSW ICB
- Implementation of national guidance and evidence-based practice.

Key working responsibilities: To work with the Infection Control team andother healthcare workers to ensure the Health and Social Care Act (2010)standards are met. Lead in the investigation of outbreaks of infection and participate inmonitoring prevention and control measures. To lead on post infection reviews on all alert organisms, including but not limited to MRSA and E coli bacteraemia, and Clostridium Difficile infections and work to reduce rates of these infections. This will include giving relevant advice andinformation to colleagues, patients, and their carers. Work collaboratively with the team and UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) inthe investigation and control of outbreaks of infection. In consultation with the other Infection Prevention and Control Practitioners/Nurses, provide advice on Prevention and Control of Infection to healthcareworkers and the public. To provide specialist advice to health care workers and the public regarding themanagement of multi drug resistant organisms. To work with the team to promote awareness of antibiotic resistance and thecorrect use of antibiotics. To review and develop policies and procedures for infection prevention andcontrol. To carry out planned infection control audits of GP surgeries, and care homes toensure that they are compliant with the infection control guidance. To provide anaudit report and action plan and monitor as required. To carry out unannounced visits/audits of premises in response to requests fromrelevant agencies. i.e., contract monitoring team, CQC, and CCG. To carry out Infection training, and teaching in a variety of situations, e.g., carehomes, and GP practice. To attend relevant meetings and represent the infection control team whenrequired. To maintain own CPD and Personal Development, to ensure the ability to provideappropriate evidence-based care. Communicate information appropriately with partners and stakeholders (internaland external). Present information, explaining highly complex issues, to a wide range of internaland external stakeholders. Maintain current clinical and professional knowledge of evidence-based practiceand national and local policy guidance and recommendations. Ensure the best interests of patients are considered in all IPC decisions madeand that care based on best practice is received by all patients. - Registered General Nurse with significant years post registration experience.
- Teaching qualification or evidence of extensive teaching experience
- Educated to Master's level or equivalent experience/ qualifications
