Job summary

As part of the Leadership Team for the Directorate, the post holder will lead the scoping, planning and co-ordination of the Digital Strategy and related teams across NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin (NHS STW) Integrated Care System (ICS) and Integrated Care Board (ICB).

Digital Innovation and Transformation is a pivotal service for NHS STW ICS and ICB to drive forward the Digital Strategy across the health and care system. A successful Head of Digital Innovation & Transformation will provide a strategic edge in the increasingly integrated landscape of the NHS.

The Head of Digital Innovation & Transformation will be an expert in all aspects of digital strategy, operating model design, and implementation planning. They will have lead responsibility for a number of strategic priorities, working closely with the Chief Digital and Information Officer and the Chief Medical Officer.

They will contribute to the digital strategy, business plans, and its implementation of the strategic portfolio of programmes ensuring performance targets are met & benefits realised. The post holder must have in-depth professional knowledge acquired through professional training and experience spanning over 10 years.

This is a six-month secondment extendable to 12 months.

Main duties of the job

  • Direct line management and day to day management of Digital Innovation & Transformation Team, including appraisals; sickness absence; disciplinary and grievance matters; recruitment and selection decisions; personal and career development; departmental workload and allocation.
  • Plan and organise a broad range of complex activities pertaining to the NHS STW Digital Strategy and services, contributing to medium-long term strategy, developing, contributing to, and adjusting corporate policies and procedures where required.
  • Provide managerial, professional & strategic leadership across the NHS STW ICS and ICB. Responsible for introducing, adapting, and improving digital information systems.
  • Manage the development of business cases, options analysis, and the procurement of key systems.
  • Analyse performance of areas under review as part of the Digital Strategy to ensure anticipated performance efficiency targets and strategic objectives are met, often leading on the development of innovative solutions where expert opinion may differ.
  • Ensure development of members of staff through appraisal, objective setting and appropriate support for professional training.
  • Ensure that there are strong links with other clinical and corporate directorates.
