The Principal Analyst for Population Health will be responsible for providing population health intelligence to clinical networks within the Integrated Care System (ICS), allowing for a greater level of intelligence-led decision-making. The role involves understanding, defining, and delivering analysis for relevant subject areas; working with organisations to help them to better understand their data; and collaborating with analytical and operational teams from across the system, for the purpose of improving health delivery and citizen outcomes.

As part of the Humber and North Yorkshire ICB Data, Business Intelligence and Population Health Intelligence team, you will be working with other analysts across the team and wider analytics system, along with developers within the ICB on our Microsoft Azure data tools, including Power BI.

Main duties of the job

This role will act as the key insight partner for population health intelligence within clinical networks, with an initial focus on diabetes, respiratory diseases and stroke. Working with clinical and other partners to understand their needs, you will bring together, analyse and present data, providing contextual insight relevant to the audience, making use of internal and external data, including population health data, the Stroke Sentinel National Audit Programme (SSNAP) and National Diabetes Audit. You will apply your knowledge, skills and experience in developing insight tools and dashboards using Power BI and other applications and providing bespoke analysis to meet population health intelligence programme needs. This post requires a good understanding of information governance and maintaining confidentiality in an analytical service.

The Population Health Intelligence team works with closely with data and business intelligence colleagues, the Population Health and Prevention team and colleagues within the wider partnership arrangements.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to master's degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience and training from working within the NHS or public health in a similar role.
  • In-depth specialist knowledge of analysis and the use of information across the NHS and / or public health acquired through experience and training.
  • Knowledge of population health intelligence dataflows.
  • Advanced working knowledge of analytical packages such as R, Power BI or SSMS.
  • Strong statistical knowledge.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office tools

Desirable

  • Degree in a statistics or informatics field.
  • Detailed knowledge of Population Health Intelligence approaches.
  • Detailed knowledge of NHS data flows for performance and activity.
  • Detailed knowledge of an area of health care delivery (e.g. Urgent & Emergency care, Cancer, Community Services, Primary Care or Public Health).
