Humber and North Yorkshire Cancer Alliance is seeking an energetic, creative and self-motivated Senior Communications and Engagement Officer to join our team.
The successful applicant will have a flair for writing, be forward thinking and understand the many different methods and channels the Cancer Alliance can utilise to share its communications with a wide variety of stakeholders.
If you have experience of planning communications campaigns, writing news releases, and creating a wide variety of content that raises the profile of the organisation you are working for, wed like to hear from you. The successful candidate will also have excellent communication and people skills, take a proactive approach to their work, be organised, innovative and efficient.

Partnership working is key within the Cancer Alliance and the successful candidate will work with colleagues from different organisations within the local health and care system.
You will also have multiple training opportunities and be part of an enthusiastic, motivated communications and engagement team.
Main duties of the job
Plan, create and deliver multi-faceted communications and marketing campaigns, utilising organic and paid-for activity to great effect to ensure key messages around cancer awareness and early diagnosis reach the intended audience.
Proactively identify good news stories across all workstreams and package them in a way that earns maximum media coverage to enhance the Cancer Alliances reputation within the communities we serve.
Act as the Cancer Alliances content co-ordinator, ensuring that our wide range of stakeholders are regularly updated about the Cancer Alliances work via a wide variety of publications and online activity.
Advocate the adoption of the hero-hub-hygiene content approach to ensure we maximise the impact of the content we create.
Respond to media enquiries in an efficient and professional manner, liaising with a range of colleagues within and outside of the Cancer Alliance.
Work with agencies to deliver high-end marketing activity, ensuring high standards of work at all times.
Line management responsibility
NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) is responsible for planning and arranging the provision of NHS services to meet the diverse health needs of a population of 1.7 million people. Our area reaches over 1,500 square miles and includes the cities of Hull and York and the large rural areas across East Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire. The ICB is part of the Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership, one of 42 Integrated Care Systems (ICS) across England to meet health and care needs, coordinate services and plan in a way that improves population health and reduces inequality between groups. The Health and Care Partnership comprises of NHS organisations, local councils, health and care providers and voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations.
The role will require the ability to plan communications activity and campaigns; developing and presenting complex and sensitive information and messaging to multiple audiences including all levels of staff, public, patients, stakeholders and partners. It will also involve providing specialist advice to staff, managers and patients on communications issues to promote the programme and ensure the reputation of the Cancer Alliance is managed.
The post-holder will need to cultivate excellent working relationships with leaders in health, social care and across the voluntary sector, with operational teams, the media and with members of the public and community groups.
Co-ordinate and turn complex information in to a range of visual or written, accurate and engaging information. This will include producing press releases, statements, briefings and presentations ensuring that positive and proactive media stories reflect the ambition and achievements of the Alliance.
Source and create new content that promotes the Alliance, and its work.
Creation and management of social media campaigns.
Build strong relationships with fellow communication and engagement team members across the Alliance.
Develop and manage integrated communications and engagement campaigns to support delivery of the Cancer Alliance work-streams, including potential changes to services, evaluating their impact for future work.
Develop and implement effective internal and external communications projects, proactively seeking out opportunities to promote the work of the Cancer Alliance in-line with wider objectives.
Provide operational (day to day) media relations and FOI requests, often relating to high profile and sensitive issues.
Design, plan and manage engagement and communication events with a wide range of stakeholders.
Responsible for writing and producing accurate content for the Cancer Alliances website.
Delivering training to colleagues on practical, effective and appropriate use of digital and social media as required across the Cancer Alliance.
