Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board for the role of a Migrant Health Team Health Care Assistant.

Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board is a dynamic organisation working in a fast-moving and ever-changing environment making significant improvements in the delivery of health and social care services for our population of approximately 640,000. The county covers a large geographical area made up of 72 GP Practices within six Primary Care Network localities which include a mixture of rural and urban areas.

Main duties of the job

The health care assistant will function within a small team dedicated to the ongoing health care and screening of migrants new to this country. The successful applicant will be a focussed and driven individual who has a genuine passion for improving healthcare services for this population. We are looking for a kind, resilient support worker with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who can work closely with the nursing team to support the personal and public health needs for this population. To facilitate resilience in this role, support can be provided through the ICB Professional Nurse Advocate team.

The successful applicant must be happy to travel around the county as the workload dictates and must have the flexibility to react to in-hours reprioritisation of a workload, altering their working day and calendar depending on service user need.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To support and facilitate the team in providing health and well being support to service users residing in Initial Accommodation contingency hotels.

The successful candidate:

Will be passionate about the provision of equitable health care to all service users.

Will have proficient attitudes and behaviors compatible with NHS Gloucestershire ICB values.

Will work within the existing clinical team to support with healthcare provision.

Will assist with phlebotomy and sampling to ensure prompt health protection screening.

Will assist service users with navigating GP/ pharmacy systems to ensure Public Health/ UKHSA prophylaxis targets are met.

Will undertake and record weights and measurements of adults and children within contingency hotel settings.

Will assist with administration and recording of vaccinations and immunisations for all service users.

Will undertake and report clinical observations including blood pressure and pulse readings.

Support the service users with holistic and pastoral care, to ensure they are met with kindness and understanding.

Will be able, after training, to signpost service users to appropriate agencies, activities and events to improve their welfare and well being.

Will be able to, under supervision, built up a caseload of individualised holistic care plans for service users to support their welfare and well-being.

Will provide support within the team with the provision and dissemination of translated materials for health education.

Will have an understanding/ experience of quality improvement methodology and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively to improve service provision.

Will be able to travel independently across the county to support the clinical team. All travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Support with signposting to GARAS, community pharmacies, Primary Care and other partner agencies.

Manage equipment ordering from other agencies.

Will assist with and participate in associated projects that may coincide with the priorities and work of the Quality team.

Will be happy and willing to develop further clinical skills that would support the service.

Will be able to assist with administrative tasks to support the clinical team.

Will have IT experience to include the use of a variety of IT packages, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint, and will have the ability to input data on a range of IT packages to assist with audit and data recording.
