Job summary

The Child Death Review (CDR) Partners, which are the NWL Integrated Care Board and Local Authority in each borough, hold responsibility to ensure that each child death is reviewed, with learning taken and shared to reduce future child deaths. NWL CDR Service covers Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow, and Westminster/Kensington and Chelsea.

Main duties of the job

The NWL CDR Service is nurse led, and works very closely with the Designated Doctors for Child Death to provide a consistent, quality service across the partnership.

You will work as a skilled member of the CDR Team and work in partnership with agencies across NWL to ensure that the process to support families is effective. You will provide frontline CDR specialist support from leading and chairing the multi-agency Joint Agency Response (JAR), leading Joint Home Visits, being involved with Child Death Review Meetings (CDRM) and supporting the review at the Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP). You will help to identify themes and trends and disseminate learning across the partnership, collaborating with professionals to inform and change practice. NWL CDR Service uses eCDOP and you will help support the collection of data through this system.

Job responsibilities

Delivering all aspects of the NWL CDR Service: multi-agency engagement, the JAR service, the CDRM process, through to CDOP, and the dissemination of learning to inform and change practice.

For hospital deaths attending all hospital chaired CDRMs and supporting successful integration with, for example, other Perinatal Mortality Review, Morbidity and/ or Integrated Care Governance Meetings. This includes monitoring multi-agency engagement.

Chair CDRMs for all non- hospital deaths.

Identify and respond quickly to any concerns where specialist investigations are indicated as being required, including abuse or malpractice by colleagues, and refer in line with relevant policy.

Undertake the key work function for families where appropriate, ensuring each childs family is aware of the CDR process and provided with sensitive support. Work in partnership with agencies to ensure families receive a co-ordinated approach.

Monitor alternate key work availability with the CDR Team Manager and signpost as appropriate, retaining oversight to inform and enhance consistent practice across NWL.

Work with families to help co-produce a responsive, supportive bereavement network across NWL.

Helping the CDR team to review their processes, protocols, systems and governance arrangements to ensure improvement of the CDR Service.

Contribute to the analysis of trends and themes for CDOPs and external reports; work with partners to gain feedback and implement dissemination of learning that makes a difference.

Develop and deliver training packages for key stakeholders and allied professionals who need to be made aware of the learning from CDOPs and to understand new NWL CDR process and the implications for their agency.

Providing an efficient service when dealing with internal and external communication.

Supporting the CDR Team to develop an effective, consistently high quality and efficient child death system across NWL, evidencing positive impact on practice from shared learning to reduce future deaths.

Supporting the development of a CDR/CDOP evaluation review framework.

Assisting induction planning and skill development delivery for all new CDR staff and partner agencies, as agreed with the CDR Team Manager.

Deputise for the CDR Team Manager where appropriate and with support.

Contribute to the creation and feedback of the annual CDOP report to partners and wider.

Supporting the integration of a NWL Child Death Information Pack and regularly updating in the light of feedback received.

Financial and Physical Resources:

Manage resources needed to assist the CDR Service and be aware of the need for effective budgeting.

Develop the use of the CDR Service resources to provide data to promote a good understanding of the NWL area pertinent to child death.

Staff Management

Work as a member of the CDR Service.

Support the CDR Team Manager to develop a cohesive team to deliver the CDR Service.

Support any new members of the team and develop their skills using eCDOP.

Information Management

Contribute in the development of systems and frameworks used in the CDR Service to effectively monitor scheme delivery service provisions and to support future service developments.

  • Current NMC Nurse or Midwife qualification

Experience

  • Experience of working with children and/or adults in a specialist nurse setting including hospice care or acute care, neonatal or health visiting, school nursing, community based nursing or midwifery
