NHS Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board

Non Executive Member

The closing date is 20 February 2026

Job summary

Please do not apply via this website.

We are seeking Non-Executive Members who will work closely with the Chair to help shape a future-focussed Essex Integrated Care Board as it transitions towards the ambitions set out in the NHS Model ICB Blueprint. While the new ICB will be established regardless of forthcoming legislation, changes to the statutory framework are expected to realign Board composition and strengthen the commissioning focus required for the next decade. You will play a key role in overseeing this evolution, guiding the shift from legacy arrangements to a more disciplined, outcomes-driven mode, and will bring the insight, independence and leadership needed to steer the organisation through both the immediate priorities and future legislative changes that will refine how the Board operates. Each NEM will be assigned a committee to Chair, but will also lead on specific portfolios, determined through the interview process.

We are looking for four suitably qualified individuals to fulfil the below roles:

  • Chair of the Remuneration Committee (statutory role)
  • Chair of the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee (statutory role and conflicts of interest guardian)
  • Chair of the Neighbourhood Health Committee
  • Chair of the Commissioning, Quality and Resource Committee

This is an exciting moment to join the board, helping to shape a new ICB that is designed from the outset to be forward looking, ambitious and aligned with the NHS long term vision for healthier communities.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside the Chair, other non-executives, executive directors and partner members and as equal members of a unitary board. You will be responsible for specific areas relating to board governance and oversight:

  • Bringing independent and respectful challenge to the plans, aims and priorities of the ICB.
  • Promoting open and transparent decision-making that facilitates consensus aimed to deliver exceptional outcomes for the population.

The attached information applicant pack provides details about the four roles.

As an NHS leader, you will demonstrate a range of leadership competencies and personally, you will bring a range of professional expertise as well as community understanding and experience to the work of the Board. We prioritise Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, team health and wellbeing and the principles of kind leadership in our 'ways of working' and you will have a key role in nurturing this culture.

If you interested in applying for this role you should submit a CV, supporting statement and a covering letter to mseicb-me.essexhr-recruitment@nhs.net by midday on 20 February 2026.
