An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Recruitment and Retention Officer to support the newly launched Health Care Assistant Academy.
Working within a small team you will play a key part in this new initiative by developing and implementing a systemwide retention strategy for HCAs. You will work with organisations within the system to review and benchmark current practices, look to broaden and implement new activities and processes that will support in retaining our HCA Workforce, providing an enhanced career pathway and experience.
You will ensure that all key elements of the people promise are embedded in to those practices and deliver an effective support service to managers and staff across the workforce to ensure engagement, retention and health and wellbeing best practice is embedded across the system long term.
When needed you will support in managing recruitment campaigns and events across Mid and South Essex targeting our local workforce, generating awareness and supporting new to care into HCA Roles. You will ensure that all our newly recruited HCAs are provided with a best in class and standardised experience from interview through to induction and will act as a supportive link between the new starter and the service they have been recruited into to ensure a smooth onboarding period.
Main duties of the job
As a recruitment and retention knowledge expert you will lead on developing the operational processes for the HCA Academy and establish clear ways of working with all partners and support the delivery of service improvement to enhance the candidate experience and improve customer service. We recognise that attracting and recruiting is only half of the challenge with retention being just as important for our long term workforce planning. You will therefore be responsible for understanding trends around attrition, turnover and retention, using this information to inform the development of retention interventions based on good practice, working alongside our team of HCA champions and pastoral support assistants.

The HCA Academy is an Integrated Care System (ICS) initiative between Essex Partnership University Hospital Trust (EPUT) and Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (MSEFT) and will model a one workforce cross system approach to the recruitment, education and experience of Healthcare Assistants (HCA), establishing a career framework that supports retention in the role and will offer a supported progression into apprenticeships for our population.
The HCA Recruitment & Retention Officer will sit within EPUT as part of a centralised resourcing team that will support recruitment and retention initiatives on behalf of the ICS. Bringing a wealth of recruitment experience, creativity and passion, the post holder will be responsible for developing an attraction strategy for Health Care Assistants including coordinating recruitment campaigns and working with external partners including Further Education providers. The initial focus will be to develop the hub, operational processes and establish clear ways of working with all partners. The postholder will provide leadership for the HCA Recruitment officers, ensuring delivery against service KPIs and role modelling excellent customer service whilst ensuring an efficient, reliable and responsive centralised recruitment service that acts as a centre of excellence.
The post holder will also support initiatives to deliver increased retention of our Health Care Assistant workforce by contributing to the ongoing development, implementation and review of the HCA development programmes, using data and feedback to identify any retention concerns and putting plans in place to support these.
KEY DELIVERABLES
Working with the project manager, the postholder will be required to monitor and evaluate performance against agreed objectives and outcomes for the recruitment hub.
The postholder will be responsible for the day to day management of the HCA Recruitment team, ensuring a high quality, customer focused, recruitment service.
To lead on targeted recruitment working closely with the HCA Marketing Manager to develop a range of engaging and innovative approaches to maximise the reach of our HCA recruitment and create talent pipelines so there is a ready supply of staff ahead of demand.
To build excellent working relationships with all stakeholders in order to develop and maintain the reputation of the centralised recruitment hub as a centre of excellence
Ensure KPIs are monitored monthly and provide regular reporting on progress and effectiveness to the HCA programme steering group.
