Job summary
An exciting opportunity for a part time Associate Medical Director - Dental has arisen within the Office of the West Midlands (OWM) Primary Care Commissioning Team. The OWM has been established to support the 6 Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) across the West Midlands to support the ICBs to deliver delegated responsibilities, including those for General Medical, Pharmacy, Optometry and Dental services.
The Office for the West Midlands (OWM), is hosted by Birmingham and Solihull ICB, as the employing body, but the team supports the following ICBs:
- Black Country
- Birmingham and Solihull
- Coventry and Warwickshire
- Herefordshire and Worcestershire
- Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin
- Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent
Utilising 'Neighbourhood, Place and System' the postholder will champion collaborative commissioning, focus upon developing and commissioning integrated services, that support patients to manage their own care, prevent ill-health and access services in the most appropriate setting.
This a key new role for the OWM and the post holder will work operationally to the OWM Head of Primary Care Commissioning and will be professionally accountable to the Chief Medical Officer in Birmingham and Solihull ICB.
The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and oversight to the effective delivery of the commissioning and contract management of dental services.
Main duties of the job
In summary this will include:
- Providing Professional leadership for Local Dental Network Chairs and Dental Clinical Advisers
- Leading the dental clinical adviser team to support the delivery of relevant statutory and regulatory duties
- Leading on clinical leadership advice to support strategic workstreams, such as the development of a dental strategy
- Providing the professional link to the NHSE Regional Chief Dental Officer to ensure strategic alignment at Regional and national level
- Providing the link to the NHSE Medical Directorate on PAG / PDLP performer issues
- Providing senior clinical leadership advice to the OWM Primary Care Commissioning Team on areas such as, but not limited to Intermediate Minor Oral Surgery (IMOS) accreditation, the Dental Assurance and Improvement Group and the management of more complex contractual / quality issues
- Providing the link to the NHSE Workforce, Training and Education team
- Supporting ICBs across the West Midlands with media enquiries
- Supporting Medical Directors across the West Midlands ICBs with any dental related queries.
