Job summary

Are you a dynamic and enthusiastic GP working in Cheshire or Merseyside with experience in Safeguarding Children and adults at risk?Due to the retirement of the current Named GP for Safeguarding (facing Sefton Place), NHS Cheshire & Merseyside Integrated Care Board is providing an exciting opportunity for a new substantive Named GP for Safeguarding to join our ICB safeguarding team.The Named GP is a General Practitioner with a special interest in safeguarding of both adults and children and will contribute to the planning and strategic organisation of the safeguarding work programme in conjunction with the Head of Safeguarding and wider ICB Safeguarding Team.

Note: Only GPs currently working across Cheshire and Merseyside will be considered for this position.

Main duties of the job

The Named GP for Safeguarding role encompasses all safeguarding related areas and ensures the ICB meets its statutory accountabilities. It incorporates responsibilities for training, audit, quality assurance, statutory reviews, liaison and provides expert advice both operationally and strategically. The role supports GP practices in matters concerning the protection and safeguarding of adults and children, including Prevent, Domestic Abuse, Mental Capacity Act etc and promoting compliance with statutory safeguarding reviews, national standards and local policies.

Although this post is aligned to a Place team we operates within a Cheshire and Merseyside cluster arrangement. The Merseyside Cluster currently includes St Helens, Wirral, Sefton, Knowsley, and Liverpool. The Cheshire cluster currently includes Cheshire East, Cheshire West, Warrington and Halton.

This Named GP role would provide specific support to the GP Practices within Sefton Place but may also cover the other Cheshire and Merseyside Places to cover sickness or annual leave

Qualifications

Essential

  • A degree in medicine - MB ChB / MB BS or equivalent qualification
  • Practicing GP in Cheshire or Merseyside and currently on the national performers' list without conditions
  • A member of a relevant professional body

Knowledge

Essential

  • Advanced understanding of childrens and adults safeguarding leglislation
  • Advanced understanding of information sharing, information governance, confidentiality and consent, including guidance from professional bodies.
  • Aware of best practice in safeguarding

Desirable

  • Understand the commissioning and planning of safeguarding/child protection health services and adult services such as mental health and learning disabilities
  • Awareness of latest safeguarding policies or research and the implications for practice

Experience

Essential

  • Proven and significant leadership experience.
  • Be developing or already be acknowledged to have safeguarding (child and/or adults at risk) expertise.
  • Able to demonstrate engagement, empowerment, motivational skills and develop others to strengthen professional development and leadership in the safeguarding agenda.

Desirable

  • Experience and/or understanding of the Cheshire and Merseyside ICS Health Economy.
