Job summary

The Integrated Care Board (ICB) is recruiting a Deputy Designated Nurse for Children in Care and Care Leavers post to support the statutory Designated Nurse role within the team. This is a new role in the ICB and is aimed at those wanting to progress in a career in children in care and safeguarding.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be exposed to working at a strategic level within the BNSSG system, closely supported by the Designated statutory roles for Children, Children in Care and Adults. While this will be aligned closely with the work of the Designated Nurse, there will be an expectation that the post holder will support the other Designates and Deputies to cover essential ICB business, as required and agreed.

This role will offer coaching and support to the Named and Specialist Practitioners within the ICB Safeguarding Team, including providing expert children in care and safeguarding advice, when necessary, therefore previous experience is vital.

Essential

  • NMC Registered Nurse/Public Health Nurse /Health Visitor/Midwife
  • First Degree in relevant subject are or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant national policies and implications for practice relating to children in care and care leavers as well as safeguarding children and adults.
  • Working towards a postgraduate Degree in relevant subject or equivalent including master's Level training and short courses
  • Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development, particularly in the specialist field of children in care.
  • Must understand the background to and aims of current healthcare policy in relation to CiC and CLs and appreciate the implications of this on practice and engagement.
  • Knowledge and experience in multi-agency assessment processes and multi-agency working in relation to CiC and CLs safeguarding
  • Experience in line managing staff and other leadership roles.
  • Detailed understanding of CiC and Care Leavers (safeguarding adult and children legislation), policy and interagency policy and practice.
  • Have experience in preparing and presenting written briefings at senior management level which may be contentious or highly sensitive in nature.
  • Experience in contributing to developing and delivering safeguarding training.
