Lead Community Wound Management Specialist

Job summary

This post holder will be able to lead the strategy to improve wound management across Surrey Heartlands, to maximize promote and support excellent quality of wound care across the primary care sectors, including care homes, practices, District Nurses, and Tissue Viability Colleagues.

The post-holder will be leading our wound product optimization, to ensure the wound management budget is optimally managed, including product costs, evidence, practical experience, quality, waste, and GIRFT (getting it right first time) , working with other healthcare professionals involved in wound management across Surrey Heartlands

Main duties of the job

To have overall responsibility for the management of all wound management related projects in Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board (SHICB)

To be responsible for monitoring of ONPOS and FP10 prescribing of wound management products and investigating areas of unexplained expenditure.

Liaise with the Hospital and Community services, to ensure these organisations respect the Surrey Wound Management Formulary, including their use of appropriate Formulary processes if they wish to request additions to the Formulary

Lead the provision of wound management education for up-skilling primary care clinicians to manage, prescribe and review prescribing of wound care products for their patients.

To be a key member of the Surrey Wound Formulary Group, lead on a share of new product and chapter reviews, and to provide evidence and cost effectiveness evaluation for work done by other teams as part of the consultation process. These need to be of a quality suitable for presentation to the Surrey Heartlands Area Prescribing Committee,

To mentor and support others preparing wound management papers for the Area Prescribing Committee

To manage the Medicines Resource Unit (MRU) Senior Pharmacy Technician, Business Lead for Wound Management

Participate in relevant internal and external working groups/projects, services and initiatives to provide, information and analytical advice and expertise

Requirement to travel to sites across Surrey Heartlands to meet stakeholders

  • Extensive knowledge of Tissue Viability acquired through post graduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to master's level equivalent.
