Job summary

Surrey Heartlands ICB (Integrated Care Board) are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced pharmacy technician to join our forward thinking, innovative and highly regarded Medicines Optimisation team in East Surrey.

We have an ambitious vision for transformation and continuous improvement of health and care across our footprint. We are in the unique position of having secured a devolution deal, which for the first time really brings together health and social care by allowing us to commission from a single budget. We have also developed four dynamic and sustainable pace based partnerships (across East Surrey, Guildford and Waverley, North West Surrey and Surrey Downs localities) based on co-operation with our component partners, and focusing on local population needs, priorities and decision making.

The post holder will be a Senior Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy Technician working in the East Surrey Place of Surrey Heartlands ICB, supporting GP practices in or around the towns of Reigate, Oxted, Horley and Lingfield. East Surrey has a population of approximately 190,000 and 14 GP practices working in 5 Primary Care Networks (PCNs). The Medicines Optimisation Team works closely with all GP practices to improve the quality, safety and cost-effectiveness of prescribing in primary care, works with colleagues in pharmaceutical commissioning to influence hospital prescribing practice, and embed medicines optimisation into everyday practice.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a qualified and registered pharmacy technician with significant post registration experience in a primary care, hospital or community setting.

We are looking for individuals who thrive on a challenge, with an understanding of the prescribing issues facing primary care. You should possess a wide range of experience and skills including excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as sound clinical and technical knowledge about the legally required and best practice management of medicines.

Good organisational skills are essential together with the ability to manage your own workload without direct supervision.

Previous experience of working with GPs or in primary care would be an advantage although not essential.

Key components of the post will be to:

  • Work as an active member of the Medicines Optimisation Team to ensure delivery of a legal, safe and high quality pharmaceutical service
  • Contribute to the development of and support implementation of a medicines Optimisation strategy and associated services and projects
  • Work with primary care pharmacists and GP practice staff to deliver ICB medicines optimisation plans in primary care.

Please see attached Job Description for more information.

Surrey Heartlands is currently operating a mixture of home and office working. The post holder will be required to travel to practices and other settings.
