About the Role:

We are looking for a dedicated Asthma Clinical Lead 0.4 WTE until 31st March 2025 to join our team within the Sussex Integrated Care System (ICS). In this key role, you will drive the implementation of the CYP Asthma Care Bundle, ensuring that every child and young person in Sussex receives the highest standard of asthma care.

Main duties of the job

As the Asthma Clinical Lead, you will:

Lead the Implementation: Oversee the rollout of the Asthma Care Bundle across Sussex, working to standardise and improve asthma care. Promote Equity: Address disparities in asthma care by ensuring all schools and healthcare settings have access to the resources and support they need. Drive Change: Collaborate with healthcare providers, schools, and local authorities to enhance care pathways and manage asthma effectively. Champion Training: Roll out accredited asthma training for clinicians, school staff, and others to ensure consistent and high-quality care. Monitor Progress: Provide regular updates to NHS England and manage the roles national scrutiny.

Clinical Expertise: A strong background in asthma care, ideally with experience in a clinical leadership role.

Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and motivate teams, with a strategic approach to implementing change.

Collaborative Approach: Excellent communication and partnership skills to work effectively with a range of stakeholders.

Commitment to Equity: Passion for addressing health inequalities and ensuring equitable care for all children and young people.

The main purpose of the Clinical Lead role to support the development, implementation and monitoring of the overarching clinical strategy and vision for wheeze/asthma offer for children and young people in Sussex.

The Clinical Lead will act as a clinical champion for enhancing respiratory services in primary, community and secondary care settings. This is a pivotal post which will lead in implementing integrated models of care, as well as improving collaboration between key services. The post holder will be supported by stakeholders across the system and part of the Sussex wide Children and Young Peoples Community team to achieve tangible improvements in respiratory care.

The Clinical Lead will be focusing on work focusing on Childhood wheeze/Asthma, including leading on the delivery set by the National Asthma Bundle of Care as well as support with the current winter pressures related to increase respiratory cases.

Alongside this, the post holder will participate on a regular basis in all relevant boards/networks to progress the key workstreams.

The post holder will use their acute, community and primary care understanding to clinically direct and successfully ensure collaborative, sustainable delivery of system-level principles and models and place-specific delivery of projects.

  • Computer literacy and email access is essential.

  • Ability to put aside individual interests and act in the interest of all children and young people.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy and understanding with a wide variety of colleagues and partners will be required, as will consistency and firmness in the management of these relationships to ensure the delivery of plans.
