The Sussex
NHS Commissioners represent a joint way of working across the ICB. The ICB's are responsible
for the planning and commissioning of health care services for their local
area. Working together in this way allows the organisations to be more
effective and efficient by streamlining processes, avoiding duplication and
delivering consistency of quality across a larger area. The ICB's collectively
cover an area of over 2 million people and have an annual financial spend of
over £2.95 billion. There is a single Chief Executive Officer and Executive
Team. As functions across Sussex are working towards becoming integrated, staff
working within the CCGs are expected to have strong working links across the
system
The Sussex ICBs Medicines Optimisation Team is ambitious and forward thinking, striving to
ensure that the patient is always at the heart of everything we do. The team, as part of the shared
management team across Sussex, is responsible for providing strategic and
operational level advice and support in all matters regarding prescribing and
medicines optimisation. The team works to address medicines optimisation and
service development issues in partnership with other organisations across all
local health and social care interfaces.
We are
looking for several experienced and highly motivated Pharmacist(s) to join our
team as Senior Medicines Optimisation Pharmacists for both permanent and fixed
term contract.
Main duties of the job
These posts provide an excellent opportunity to contribute to delivering medicines optimisation in primary care, improve patient outcomes, reduce medicine waste, advise on prescribing and ensure alignment with local and national recommendations.
These roles will work with the existing team of pharmacists and
pharmacy technicians to deliver the local medicines optimisation strategy,
including current NHS England priorities, as part of overall population health
management across Sussex.
You will play a key
role in promoting high-quality, cost-effective prescribing within the local
health population and to provide prescribing and pharmaceutical support to
Primary Care Networks (PCNs), GP practices and associated community staff
within the IC. You will also have a
lead role within the team for providing medicines optimisation support to
specialised commissioners and primary care prescribers in a number of clinical
areas.
Applicants must have
experience of providing medicines management advice, through analysis of
evidence, presented in a systematic way to enable effective decision making. We
need an individual who is confident in their knowledge and skills and who can
provide constructive challenge in formal meetings. Able to make recommendations and facilitate
sustained changes in prescribing practice to ensure -effective medicines use.
There is a need for self-motivation and initiative to deliver the high standard
required.

ICBs are updating the Medicines Optimisation Strategy currently, and this will describe
how we are going to improve health through the promotion of high quality, cost-effective

- Providing leadership, support and line management as required to the ICS medicines optimisation workforce
