Job summary

NHS Devon Integrated Care Board (ICB) is seeking an exceptional leader to join the organisation as Chair. This is a unique opportunity for the right individual to help shape the future of health and care services for the 1.2 million people in the county.

Devon is a system with many examples of excellent care across primary, community, secondary, mental health, and the care sector, and a proud track record of some of the most established integrated working in the country.

As we mature as an integrated care system (ICS) and ICB, we must transform ourselves to build on these successes and rise to the challenges that we face now and make ourselves ready for the ones that lie ahead.

To lead us into this new phase, we require an exceptional Chair with strong, strategic leadership skills and the experience of stewardship of significant public funds, good governance and delivering impactful outcomes.

With an annual budget of £2.3 billion, NHS Devon is responsible for commissioning high-quality and innovative health and care services that meet the needs of the local population within the available resources.

The Chair will lead NHS Devon's Board, which brings together leaders from across the health and care system. Appointment will be approved by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.

PLEASE REFER TO THE FULL ADVERT TEXT AND CHAIR CANDIDATE PACK ATTACHED TO THIS VACANCY.

Main duties of the job

The role comes with considerable challenge. Devon is under the highest tier of oversight and scrutiny by NHS England (segment 4 of the NHS oversight framework).

The causes of this are longstanding issues and, while we are beginning to see encouraging signs of turnaround, they remain critical priorities to be addressed without losing sight of our need to go further on prevention, improving population health, and tackling inequalities.

The Chair will play a vital role in building and maintaining excellent relationships with a range of key partners. They will drive our strategic vision through partnerships and ensure a focus on putting the patient and service user first and making the best use of our collective resources.

We serve a diverse population, with complex health and care needs, comprising both rural and urban areas, extremes of affluence and deprivation, as well as significant health inequalities.

This vision is the golden thread through our Integrated Care Strategy and Joint Forward Plan, which set out how we will deliver joined-up, preventative health, care and support services to all.

We have a strong commitment from all our partners to make our vision a reality and to make a real difference to our residents and communities, by working together.

As Chair, you will play a key role in working with colleagues, partners and communities to drive these ambitious plans.
