Job summary
We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and high-achieving nurse or midwifery leader to join the NHS Devon Integrated Care Board as Interim Chief Nurse Officer (CNO).
The CNO will be a pivotal and influential role, holding the ICS and ICB to account for the delivery of patient-centred high-quality care, with a focus on patient safety, particularly around prescribed areas of service redesign, clinical pathways and system transformational change and innovation of services.
Main duties of the job
Working closely with our Chief Medical Officer (CMO) the CNO is accountable for all matters relating to the relevant professional colleagues across the clinical, professional and care workforce employed by the ICB. They will also be designated accountable for statutory and non-statutory functions that the ICB will need to perform as agreed with the CEO.
This is an influential executive role and therefore sophisticated leadership at Executive level, along with the ability to develop credibility to guide and facilitate is critical. Your authenticity and ability to inspire people will mean you build strong connections with people at all levels, inside and outside an organisation. Importantly, too, you will be able to respond to strategic and operational challenges with a positive mindset and will drive through pragmatic action.

In anticipation of these accommodation changes, your contractual base is likely to be our new Exeter site, however this will be confirmed to you once we have further clarity on our new accommodation.

- Current valid registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
- Educated to master's degree level, equivalent professional qualification or experience

- Substantial experience of providing board level and/or system leadership within a regulatory environment and across complex systems with demonstrable impact
- Experience of managing highly sensitive situations with patients, families, or carers and/or with wider advocating agencies
- Experience of managing relationships with the media and political stakeholders
- Experience of providing clinical leadership, mentorship, and professional development at a very senior level with demonstrable outcome
- Experience of leading highly complex and contentious quality improvement/clinical change and digital transformation at significant scale
