We are looking for a Peer Support Worker who is an expert by experience of supporting young people to access Mental Health Services and/or has experience of supporting young people in treatment from a mental health/emotional wellbeing service to contribute to the on-going development of the Navigator service. This will include supporting our step-aside function and the development of peer support groups for parents and carers of autistic children and those with learning disabilities that have been referred to the Keyworker service. You will work alongside a Navigator to provide a seamless, robust and relevant network of onward support, signposting as appropriate to alternative services and 'hand holding' to build confidence and resilience in families.
Main duties of the job
- To support the development of peer support groups for parents and carers of autistic children and those with learning disabilities that have been referred to the Keyworker service.
- To support the co-production and co-design of service delivery, incorporating voice and influence to enhance the work of the Navigator function.
- To role model the values of peer support and recovery by being the expert by lived example of ongoing recovery to support, educate and inspire other parents/carers with children accessing the Norfolk & Waveney Navigator service to improve their mental health and wellbeing.
- To promote a recovery approach within the Norfolk & Waveney Navigator service.
- To support parent/carers in developing resilience and confidence to step-aside from the Navigator service.
- Maximise the involvement and participation of parents/carers in the evaluation of interventions and support.
- Support parents/carers to identify on-going needs to help maintain family stability.
- Organise and take part in leisure activities with families to encourage engagement and participation.
- To apply the principles of co-production by developing an environment that promotes equality and mutuality.
- To act as a connector and work collaboratively to establish and develop links with the wider peer support network both internal and external to Norfolk & Waveney.
About us
The NHS Long Term Plan states that by 2023/24, children & young people with a learning disability, autism or both with the most complex needs will have a designated Navigator. The Norfolk & Waveney Integrated Care Board (ICB) were successful in becoming an early adopter pilot site in 2021/22 to develop a key worker team, known locally as the Navigator team to support children and young people up to the age of 25.

- Minimum of 5 GCSEs (including English) or equivalent
