Job summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Director of Nursing on a fixed term basis to 31st December 2025 to lead our All Age Continuing Care and Complex Care teams. At North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board, we are committed to providing high-quality care and support to our community.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will lead the development of strategies and delivery plans which will enable the ICB to commission high quality, safe and effective services which meet the needs of the population of the ICB North Area. Working with the Director of Nursing they will lead and support delivery All Age Continuing Healthcare and Complex Care.

The ICB is responsible for ensuring that high quality and safe health services are accessible to all of our communities. It has a wide range of functions, including; promoting integration of health and care services, improving peoples health and well-being, reducing health inequalities.
With a £6.6 billion budget and a workforce of 170,000 people across the North East and North Cumbria. As well as strategic functions, ICB staff also work at place level with local health and wellbeing boards in each of our 14 local authority areas. These teams also work alongside our 67 primary care networks which are groups of local GP practices, social care teams and other community- based area providers.
The ICB works with our Provider Collaborative too, this includes the 11 NHS Foundation Trusts in the region, to deliver our shared priorities.

Ensure the needs of our people and communities are met, in an equitable manner, in terms of access and choice. Ensure compliance with national legislation, policy and frameworks. Lead and support the development of an operating model to ensure commissioning is safe, effective and equitable. Oversee service complaints, FOIs and MP enquiries, ensuring the ICB Complaints Policy and timeframes are adhered to.

Essential
- Nursing qualification with current registration and revalidation with Nursing Midwifery Council
- Educated to masters level supplemented by specialist training to doctorate or equivalent level, management qualification or equivalent, experience to masters
- Evidence of continuous CPD
- Training in leadership and management skills in an NHS setting
Desirable
- Specific training in improvement techniques or willingness to attend Specialist safeguarding supervision qualification
Experience
Essential
- Experience in working at a senior level within a Commissioning or Provider Quality, Safety/Safeguarding and Assurance environment
- Significant experience in a senior clinical role
- Experience of managing and implementing evidence based practice and the use of clinical audit and research
- Experience of delivering significant change
- Knowledge and experience of driving improvement for the safety of patients
- Knowledge and experience of identifying, measuring and monitoring quality metrics, identifying areas for improvement.
