Job summary

Main duties of the job

You'll be responsible for developing, planning, delivering and evaluating on medicines optimisation QIPP initiatives across the region. Oversee and contribute to the production of standard operating procedures and audits. Interpret highly complex prescribing data and intelligence using tools available to report to senior leaders across the ICB.

The North East and North Cumbria ICB offers hybrid working in this role meaning that the successful candidate can work from a mixture of locations including home, ICB offices and on occasion partner bases.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Clinical Director and Deputy Director of Medicines and Optimisation with:

Optimisation, in managing and delivering the medicines economy aspects of the ICB Medicines strategy. They will provide direction on the prioritisation of clinically effective and best value QIPP medicines optimisation initiatives, the implementation of NICE, local guidance and national priorities so that medicines are used in a clinically safe and cost-effective way across the NENC health economy.

Provide specialised advice regarding all aspects of the introduction of new medicines, development of commissioning statements and prescribing policies, and the withdrawal of other medicines when necessary.

Manage a range of diverse Medicines Optimisation projects and initiatives.

Extract, analyse, and interpret highly complex prescribing data and intelligence to provide senior management reports to support strategic decisions.

Manage and provide leadership to other Pharmacy Technicians, including training and personal development needs.

Provide leadership to the wider medicine's optimisation team, co-ordinate and allocate work to individuals and teams effectively to deliver results on clearly defined objectives for the projects they lead.

Engage with primary care clinicians, including GPs, nurses, and community pharmacists, to identify and share best practice in medicines optimisation and project manage any role out across a local/regional footprint.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Pharmacy Technician NVQ Level
  • BTEC / Foundation degree in Pharmacy or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Additional theoretical study and practical experience to postgraduate diploma or equivalent level
  • Professional registration with General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development

Desirable

  • Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society

Experience

  • Significant experience of leading and managing staff
  • Specialist knowledge of current NHS policies/processes and structures especially relating to Medicines Optimisation
  • Specialist knowledge of medicines legislation
  • Specialist clinical pharmacy knowledge
