Job summary

NHS Black Country Integrated Care Board (ICB) has a great story to tell and were looking for a highly motivated Senior Communications Officer who can help us to share it.

We need someone who can seek out positive news on how we are improving the health and wellbeing of our population and create engaging written and social media content for our vibrant and diverse audiences.

Please note, this is a secondment opportunity where we are currently welcoming applications from those within the Black Country Integrated Care System (ICS).

Main duties of the job

Working within the ICB and as part of the wider Black Country Integrated Care System, you will have an excellent knowledge and understanding of delivering communication campaigns and will be able to develop and implement engaging content to communicate our successes, new initiatives, and strategic priorities.

You will be highly organised and able to communicate effectively and in a timely manner to ensure the ICBs internal and external stakeholders are up to speed and in the know.

But most of all were looking for someone who is ready to take on a challenge with a first-rate attitude and team ethic, along with the relevant qualifications, skills, and experience to make a difference.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. Lead on specific campaigns and producing creative and innovative ideas and solutions to delivering key communication messages. This may include the formal briefing of design/external communication agencies.
  2. Lead on the planning, production and distribution of regular internal/external communications mechanisms.
  3. Support the timely and accurate production and quality distribution of key internal documents.
  4. When requested, take an active part in managing communications for events and other external communication activities.
  5. Lead on providing internal communications support and advice to staff within the organisation and develop communications materials to support this.
  6. Proactively seek out opportunities and information to ensure your own knowledge is up to date and assist the communications department in making the best use of existing and emerging technology in relation to communications.
  7. Using the ICBs multimedia channels (including video) to deliver communication messages.
  8. Support the teams media lead to handle a wide range of media enquiries from journalists, and liaise with staff across the organisation to source answers to media enquiries. This will involve communicating sensitive and complex information, where information may be contentious and reassurance may need to be given both to the giver of the message and to the recipient.
  9. Assisting in writing briefings for senior managers, Board members and wider stakeholders.
  10. Working closely with other health and care organisations/agencies as required to ensure consistent and co-ordinated media handling.
  11. Sourcing positive news stories within the organisation.
  12. Manage own workload prioritising where necessary.
  13. Maintain confidentiality in relation to sensitive matters being dealt within the communications department, demonstrating respect and understanding when communicating in all forms.
  14. You will use your excellent communication skills, which enables the post holder to provide and receive complex and sensitive information to interpret into key messages for stakeholders

  22. Specialist knowledge of Microsoft Office software to create range of communication materials, such as press releases, publications and presentations.
  23. Responsible for updating and monitoring a range of communication applications and databases.

  25. Undertakes audits or surveys as necessary to the role.
