Responsible Assessor, Lung Cancer Screening

Job summary

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced and autonomous clinical professional to lead on the delivery of a specialised, high-complexity public health initiative--the nationally directed Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) programme (formerly Targeted Lung Health Check, TLHC). Designed to reduce health inequalities and improve outcomes through the early detection of lung cancer, this programme targets areas of deprivation, late-stage presentation, and high mortality, offering low-dose CT scans where clinically indicated.

Main duties of the job

The Responsible Assessor (RA) will act as a clinical leader, responsible for operational, strategic, and governance oversight of the LCS programme within Lincolnshire, as well as working collaboratively with cluster partner RA's to provide resilience across cluster programmes. Working at a high level of complexity and autonomy, the RA will ensure that the patient pathway is robust, clinically safe, and efficient. This includes managing referrals and abnormal findings across both screening-identified and conventionally referred patients and ensuring integration across complex, multi-agency systems.

The RA will lead on the clinical standardisation of practices across screening sites, supporting and participating in virtual Screening Review Meetings (SRMs), and will exercise advanced clinical judgement in line with national policy and clinical governance frameworks. They will be accountable for facilitating clinical decision-making in SRMs and for ensuring that contentious or highly sensitive clinical information is communicated with precision, tact, and professionalism.
