Job summary
The role is an exciting opportunity to work directly on innovation within an ICS, driving forward evidence-based approaches. It is hosted by NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board (ICB), working within the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System (ICS), with a dotted line reporting to the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network. The role will work across the ICS system to drive effective engagement and build collaboration with constituent partner organisations around innovation and transformation, supported by the priorities of the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support a wide range of stakeholders in the discovery, development, deployment, and sustainability of innovation aligned with the ICS Strategy and the aims of Prevention, Integration and Equity. The role will achieve this through the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network aims to identify, test and spread new technologies and better ways of working, with health inequalities being central and also supporting the ICB to meet their statutory obligations associated with research and innovation.
The role will focus on increasing capacity and capability in the ICS to adopt innovation, providing an innovation and adoption process that matches viable solutions to defined challenges.
The post holder will develop and agree detailed implementation plans, evaluation activities and health analytics, as well as supporting the development of business cases to ensure the sustainability and spread of proven innovations.
About us
NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) is part of the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICS. The ICB has responsibility for planning to meet local health needs, allocating resources, ensuring that the services are joined up, and overseeing delivery of improved health and wellbeing for our population. The ICB has four directorates including Finance, Quality, Integration and the Medical Directorate who all work directly with wider ICS partners. The role will sit in the newly formed Medical Directorate as part of the Clinical Strategic Programmes team with responsibility for research, evidence and innovation.
The East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN) is one of 15 Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs) around England that operate as the innovation arm of the NHS.
The EMAHSN brings together partners from all sectors involved in health and care including the NHS, social care and public health, patients, research, third sector and industry - to identify, test and spread new technologies and better ways of working. The EMAHSN has a range of objectives, but our overarching aim is always to make a difference for patients.

- Work with ICS constituent bodies in support of the ICS Strategy to embed opportunities for innovation, development, economic growth and service and health improvement aligned with the aims of prevention, integration and equity.
- Align with the ICB statutory requirements to impact on health inequalities and support research and innovation.
- To embed an approach that aligns with the Core20+5 framework and equity as a core principle of the ICS
- To develop robust improvement and implementation plans to achieve the health outcomes and return on investment agreed with EMAHSN commissioners (NHS England and the Office for Life Sciences) in addition to the ICSs agreed priorities. This will include governance arrangements, equality and equity analysis, specific milestones, success criteria, risk and issue reporting, data monitoring as well as sustainability and spread reporting
- Provide a range of improvement, project planning and implementation expertise using appropriate implementation, sustainability and spread methodology, supporting the project teams with delivery using the project gateway process where
- Lead the production of robust, evidence-based business cases and improvement plans to support sustainability and spread of best practice applying learning from evaluation and ensuring impact measurements are developed before implementation commences.
- Manage highly complex medium and long term projects, contributing to the spread and return on investment requirements agreed with NHS England and Office for Life Sciences
- Be responsible for ensuring that delivery is on target, working with project teams on implementation and identifying and exploiting opportunities to spread innovation and
- Support stakeholders to identify and manage clinical pathway changes to maximise clinical and financial benefits as well as optimising and developing workforce skills to absorb new innovations/technologies.
