Job summary

This is a key leadership role within Coventry and Warwickshire ICB with a responsibility to drive improvements in quality, patient safety and effectiveness in the services that are commissioned for the population of Coventry and Warwickshire. The post holder will provide leadership to the Nursing and Quality team, reporting to the Associate Chief Nurse for Quality and Patient Safety. They will work as a named Patient Safety Specialist for the ICB, and therefore will develop related strategy, policies, and operational procedures along with developing and monitoring patient safety and quality standards within contracts.

This post requires hybrid working.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have ongoing responsibility for leading the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) implementation embedding continuous quality improvement and assurance of patient safety systems and process. The post will also have a role in leading patient safety and quality across the ICB. Providing leadership advice in the development of nursing . The post requires collaborative working across the local health and social care sectors to:

1. Deliver ICB strategies and directorate objectives.

2. Drive Equality and Diversity within the ICB and in commissioned services.

3. Drive improvement in quality, patient safety, and effectiveness.

4. Ensure the ICB is at the forefront of best practice.

5. Lead patient experience and outcome measures.

6. Deputise for the Associate Chief Nurse for Quality and Patient Safety across all aspects of the directorate's responsibilities.

The post holder will be required to be able to be forward thinking and strategic along with the ability to manage day to day processes. Key responsibilities include:

Provide leadership for clinical governance including Quality Impact Assessments within ICB processes.

Lead the ICB Patient Safety Team responsible for the development and implementation of the ICB PSIRF Policy, plan, and Patient Safety Strategy

Provide leadership for quality in collaboration with the commissioning teams.

Provide leadership on provision of assurance and risk management, associated with the directorate objectives.

Lead the development and delivery of best practice in relation to Equality and Diversity

Ensure all staff within the nursing and quality team work together to deliver team objectives and work closely with the Deputy Director of Nursing and Clinical Transformation to ensure effective matrix working between both elements of the teams.

Support nurse revalidation across the directorate

Work with other directorates to ensure quality drives our way of working.

Deputise for the Associate Chief Nurse across a range of duties.

Accountabilityfor developing Patient Safety and quality standards.

Accountabilityfor developing strategy, policy and procedures to deliver ICB and directorate objectives.

Working with a wider range of quality indicators requiring analysis, interpretation, comparison and making decisions on appropriate actions in response to findings

Work with Commissioning Team to ensure safe and appropriate health is commissioned together with robust quality monitoring and assurance.

Work closely with the medicines management team to ensure safety systems are embedded across patient pathways.

Work constructively and collaboratively with other members of the senior team to ensure statutory duties and objectives are met.

  • Registered nurse with current NMC registration or Allied Health care professional with current professional registration
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.
  • Significant experience of delivering performance management information and analysis
  • Significant experience of managing a service within the NHS.
  • Expert understanding of the current national policies and guidance of priorities, associated with reporting in relation to national and local data and information requirements
  • Expert understanding of and background to the aims of national Patient Safety healthcare policies
