Please note: at this stage, the role is open only to colleagues currently employed within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts and the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB). Nursing vacancies are also open to Student Nurses and Newly Qualified Nurses.

The School Staff Nurse role is a varied and rewarding position requiring travel across school sites, colleges, and Family Hubs throughout North Kent. The successful applicant will provide support to children, young people, and their families, delivering high-quality, public health-focused care within educational and community settings.

School Staff Nurses are expected to embody KCHFT's CARE values in all aspects of their practice, providingtimely support while maintaining respect, compassion, and delivering differentiated care based on individualneed.School Staff Nurses must be well organised, demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills,and possess strong IT skills to support both virtual and face-to-face service delivery. The role requires theability to manage workload effectively while working collaboratively with families, educational professionals,and wider multidisciplinary teams to promote positive health outcomes.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting telephone assessments with parents and carers to explore the health needs of children and youngpeople.
  • Providing evidence-based, preventative health and wellbeing advice tailored to individual needs.
  • Visiting schools to work with large groups of students at scheduled intervals.
  • Presenting and supporting the delivery of a commissioned health and wellbeing questionnaire to identify youngpeople who may require additional support.
  • Delivering webinars to large groups of teaching staff using online software platforms, promoting safemanagement of asthma, anaphylaxis, and epilepsy within school settings.
  • Identifying children and young people who may require further intervention and facilitating appropriate follow-up or referrals.

This role requires excellent communication and presentation skills, confidence in both face-to-face and virtualdelivery, and the ability to work collaboratively with educational staff and families to promote positive healthoutcomes and ensure safe care within schools.
