Adult Autism Peer Support Workers

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for peer support workers to join us in the new KCHFT autism keyworker support service. If you are an autistic person we invite you to bring your skill in using your own experience to work alongside autistic people, supporting them to pursue their self-directed outcomes. We will offer you accredited peer support worker training. You will be fully supported in your role through regular one to one supervision and the Trust also offers a neurodiversity staff network. We are a team of specialists who work with autistic people and we are trained champions in supporting autistic people in the workplace. In this role, you will deliver a person-centred service through one to one and group work activities.

The support will be delivered by a neurodiverse team (i.e. a mixed team of both neurotypical and neurodivergent staff). If you need help with completing the application form, please contact Ute Vann (ute.vann@nhs.net).

Main duties of the job

We are recruiting into posts across Kent working primarily within one area; West Kent, East Kent, Medway & Swale, Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley.

This role requires the post holder to have a good understanding of the complex needs of individuals with autism and as such we would welcome applications from individuals who has lived experience of autism either as an Autistic person or through a close personal relationship with an Autistic person

The Adult Autism Keyworker Service is based on the social model of disability and provides abroad range of community support and interventions to people with a diagnosis of autism who havepsychosocial/psychoeducational needs alongside other specific health needs such as mental health issues. Theservices focus is on empowerment, autonomy, and agency, and supporting that person to understandthemselves and be as authentic as they can be.

The team is made up of both neurotypical and neurodivergent clinical and non -clinical colleagues including your role as a key support worker where you will actively work asa member of the multi-professional and neurodiverse team to provide high quality support to autistic people .You daily activities will be varied.

This role is being advertised as requiring the successful candidate to have autism. We consider this to be a genuine occupational requirement under the Equality Act 2010 as we believe having autism is essential for the effective delivery of peer support to our clients with autism.
