Locum Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Health

Job summary

We have an exciting new post for a Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Health on a 6 month fixed term contract, with a view to becoming a substantive post later this year.

The successful applicant will be based at our new purpose-built sexual health clinic in Margate, and will also be expected to provide advice and virtual support to sexual health staff in east Kent, and to work in our sexual health hub clinic in Canterbury one day a week.

Main duties of the job

Duties include:

Provide a complex contraception service, a high-quality service in all aspects of contraception and sexual health, including counselling and provision of all methods of contraception, including complex LARC and deep implant removal.

Provision and involvement in management of our in-house pregnancy advisory and early medical abortion service, including referral to outside agencies, where necessary.

Lead on the SRH governance provision of guidelines /governance framework for monitoring and improving practice.

Provide professional training, designing, and updating care pathways and developing new services.

STI diagnosis and management, including HIV diagnosis and STI prevention including HIV to the population of Worcestershire.

Maintain clinical skills and professional accreditation to include meeting the CPD requirements of FSRH.

Dealing with clinical incidents, PALS and complaints.

Management and supervision of medical and nursing staff.

To participate in annual job planning and appraisal with clinical managers.

To attend Departmental, Senior Management and Clinical Governance meetings, as well as other external meetings as required.

Essential

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • Membership of the Faculty of Sexual & Reproductive Health (MFSRH)
  • DFSRH and Letters of Competence in sub-dermal implants & intrauterine techniques

Desirable

  • Faculty Registered Trainer (FRT) or meets eligibility criteria to become one
  • STIF Intermediate and / or STIF Advanced Competency
  • Diploma in GU Medicine
  • On specialist register or a Specialty Trainee who is within 6 months of being admitted to the GMC's specialist register by date of interview

Experience

Essential

  • Broad range of experience in Sexual & Reproductive Health
  • Experience of working in GUM or integrated sexual health service

Desirable

  • Experience of Public Health activities
  • Experience with outreach teams and working with vulnerable groups and hard-to-reach populations
  • Experience with Young Peoples Services

Skills and Abilities
