Job summary

We are recruiting for a Safeguarding Advisor (Children) with excellent clinical and communication skills.

The Safeguarding Nurse Advisor will have a key role in promoting good professional practice and providing elements of the Safeguarding Agenda.

The focus of the work of the post holder will be within the boundaries of Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust (KCHFT) and other contracted services outside the Kent area.

Main duties of the job

As a Safeguarding Advisor you willact as an advocate for children, raising awareness of their needs and actively promoting the philosophy that their interests are paramount.

You will be expected to maintain clear, concise and appropriate records in relation to safeguarding children.

It is essential for you to have advanced knowledge of key legislation/procedures relevant to safeguarding and protecting children as well as awareness of key legislation/procedures relevant to safeguarding and protecting adults.

In addition you will promote and embed safeguarding leadership in frontline thinking, practice and decision-making, be flexible to change and respond to unpredictable situations and contribute to future service development, in line with national guidance and legislation.

  • Registered General Nurse, Registered Children's Nurse, Registered Midwife, Mental Health Nurse, Learning Disability Nurse (Children) or Specialist Community Practitioner

Desirable

  • Supervision qualification/course.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with partner agencies in relation to safeguarding children
  • Experience of managing caseloads that contain vulnerable children, children in need of protection, within primary care.
  • Report writing.

Desirable

  • Experience of providing safeguarding supervision
  • Experience of participating/undertaking audits.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of normal child development
  • Knowledge of application of NMC Code of Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice.
  • Knowledge of Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC) processes

Desirable

  • Knowledge of frameworks in respect of safeguarding supervision
