Job summary

TB Nurses are responsible for the holistic case management of children and adults with suspected or confirmed TB acting as a named case manager for patients requiring standard case management.

You will provide evidence-based care in line with national and local guidelines to support the successful treatment of TB. As part of a multidisciplinary approach, you'll maintain close links with and regularly liaise with a wide range of key stakeholders as part of their role including UK Health Security Agency (UKSHA), NHSE/I, respiratory consultants, microbiologists, pharmacists, screening and immunisations teams, GPs, Public Health Nurses etc.

Main duties of the job

Some of your duties will be:

  • Support TB patients to fully complete TB treatments, thus preventing the spread of infection to others and minimising the risk of the development of drug resistant disease.
  • Ensure persons at risk of developing TB are identified, informed and screened appropriately.
  • Increase awareness of TB prevention and treatment to health care workers, local authority employees, employers and the general public.
  • Support the TB specialist Nurses and deputise in their absence.
  • Deliver the BCG vaccination to eligible babies as part of the Neonatal BCG vaccination programme
  • Demonstrate competency in a number of clinical and non-clinical interventions including immunisation and vaccination, medicines management, BCG vaccination, TB screening, requesting diagnostic tests, assessing eligibility for vaccination, contraindications, informed consent etc.
  • Work closely with people who use our services, families, friends and carers and play an important part in how people experience our services
  • Liaise with the multi-disciplinary team and other agencies to deliver best practice.
  • Work to improve clinical outcomes ensuring the service is meeting the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the Neonatal BCG Programme and TB.
  • Be kind, responsive and professional, contributing to the quality of the services we provide by: Keeping the people who use our services safe through the use of sound clinical skills and effective risk assessments
