Speech and Language Therapy Assistant - School Liaison

Job summary

The post holder will undertake clinical casework within the children's speech and language therapy team, working with a defined caseload, accountable to designated qualified speech and language therapists and with some autonomy in allocation of work. The assistant will have clerical and administrative duties as well as responsibility for room and equipment preparation.

They will be responsible for facilitating and coordinating SLT interventions into settings/schools, acting as liaison with setting/school and SENCOs to book in graduated approach interventions (e.g. communication clinics, strategy support).

  • NVQ 3 or similar or equivalent experience
  • GCSE or equivalent in English

Desirable

  • Evidence of formal short courses on special needs

Experience and knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of working in any capacity directly with children and young people clients of any age who have special needs
  • Awareness of the difficulties faced by children and young people of all ages with communication difficulties
  • Admin & clerical experience

Desirable

  • Any additional work experience with members of the public
  • Awareness of child protection issues
  • Have assisted in training sessions

Skills and abilities

  • Awareness of boundaries within a given role
  • Can manage workload unsupervised
  • Able to travel independently throughout the Wirral
