Job summary
Provide expert Knowledge to professionals, service users and carers regarding the identification, assessment, management, and treatment of continence problems for children. At home or in Hospital and in local clinics.
Support specialist education and training to primary healthcare team and Local Authority.
Providing evidence-based continence service and develop clinical services for children, including research and audit.
Work collaboratively and cooperatively to develop the children's continence services and improve the quality of care delivered to children.
Accept delegated responsibility from Service Lead and delegate appropriately to other members of the team.
Main duties of the job
Maintain the specialist level of knowledge necessary to the role in relation to identification assessment, management, and treatment of continence problems. Provide clinical care for children in a variety of settings including children and family and where appropriate school.
To manage a caseload of children/service users who require a Specialist Continence Nursing Care Programme. Act as creditable role model, educator, and expert clinician.
To triage efficiently and delegate appropriate action.
Independently prescribed with a known clinical Specialist Area.
Act as an expert continence advisor, ensuring the clinical advice is available to purchasers, commissioners, and service users. Including carers, relatives seeking advice on the management of children with continence problems.
Participate in the development of policies, guidelines and pathways for continence care that are evidence based.
Support the Service Lead ensuring that the services are benchmarked locally and nationally, using the Essence of Care benchmarking standards.
Responsible for ensuring a robust system of dissemination or best practise via the Continence Link Nurse System or educational programmes where required.
