Job summary
Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint an innovative and enthusiastic consultant in genitourinary medicine. This post will be based both at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital, Derby & at Wheatbridge Health Village in Chesterfield within the sexual and reproductive health service.
There is an opportunity to be involved in the delivery of sexual health services, HIV outpatient services and contraception services, including specialist clinics, dependent on previous experience and relevant qualifications.
We have 2 substantive posts available, both up to 10 PAs per week,
You will play a vital role in ensuring continued excellence in innovative, patient-focused service delivery, clinic-based education of undergraduate and postgraduate multi-disciplinary staff and will contribute to the development and support of clinical research.
You will also be involved in updating care pathways and developing services
Your duties include supervision of the delivery of sexual and reproductive health outpatient services, which provide open access integrated sexual health services and HIV outpatient care to the local population.
You will be supported to develop areas of specialist interest in line with the needs of the service.
Main duties of the job
Key Areas of Responsibility
You will work closely with other members of the team to ensure high quality sexual and reproductive health and HIV services within the strategic framework agreed by the team. You will work closely with the appropriate clinical management teams.
You will undertake 8.25 direct clinical care (DCC) sessions per week if employed on a full time basis. This will include at least one late clinic per week. There are no on-call or weekend commitments at the present time.

Requirements of the Post Holder
You must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration
- Applicants that are UK trained, must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in GUM, or Certificate of Equivalence for Specialist Registration (CESR) in GUM/HIV or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview

Performance Management
The post holder will work with medical, nursing and leadership colleagues to ensure high performance in the following areas:
- Clinical efficiency e.g., activity levels and DNA rates
- Quality of outcomes e.g., infection control targets, reducing HIV infection rates
- Financial management e.g., identification, implementation and achievement of cost improvement programmes and participating in efforts to ensure services are provided cost effectively (e.g., managing locum agency spend, monitoring and managing the drug budget to target, ensuring accuracy of clinical data for the team)
- Operational efficiency e.g., day-case rates, waiting list activity and demand management
- This post will be expected to support the ongoing development of the complex contraception service
Medical Staff Management
The post holder will:
- Participate in the recruitment of junior medical staff as delegated by the Divisional
- management team
- Participate in team objective setting as part of the annual job planning cycle
- Be responsible for the ongoing appraisal of all doctors in training, Trust doctors and non-consultant grades as delegated by the Divisional management team
Governance
The post holder will be committed to Clinical Governance and Audit:
- Review clinical outcomes in designated clinical areas using external benchmarking data where appropriate, to identify and advise variances to the Divisional management team
- Participate in clinical audit, incident reporting and analysis and ensure resulting actions are implemented
- Work closely with the Directorate, Patient and Public Involvement panels in relation to clinical and services developments as delegated by the Divisional management team
- Ensure NICE clinical requirements are reviewed, implemented, and monitored
- Ensure clinical guidelines and protocols are adhered to by junior medical staff and updated on a regular basis
- Keep fully informed about best clinical practice and ensure implications for practice changes are discussed with the Divisional management team
- Be a role model for good infection control practice to all members of the multidisciplinary Team

The post holder will:
- Participate in business planning and objective setting processes where appropriate

Administrative Duties

- The consultant is expected to maintain up to date portfolios for annual appraisal, CPD and revalidation. They should undertake all administrative duties relevant to clinical role and other scheduled activities
- The maximum amount of study leave time for consultants is 30 days over a 3-year period and should be discussed with the Clinical Director, whose approval is necessary under all circumstances. Pro-rata for fixed term posts and less than LTFT posts
- Full-time Trust employees allocation for CPD funding will be the maximum available (currently £1000 per financial year but subject to change). When funds are low, part-funding maybe offered
