Specialist Children's Learning Difficulties Nurse

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled nurse to provide specialist, evidence-based care to children and young people with learning disabilities and neurodevelopmental needs. The role involves assessment, care planning and delivery of therapeutic interventions, working closely with families, carers and multi-agency partners. You will manage a caseload, contribute to safeguarding processes, and support service development while applying strong clinical judgement and Every Child Matters principles. This is a rewarding role within a supportive team, offering opportunities to develop specialist skills and make a meaningful difference to children and families.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver safe, evidence-based and outcome-focused nursing care to children and young people using an enabling and therapeutic approach
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in line withEvery Child Matters and safeguarding principles
  • Manage an allocated caseload, developing and reviewing individualised nursing care plans
  • Work collaboratively with families, carers, colleagues and multi-agency partners to meet identified needs
  • Exercise sound clinical judgement supported by supervision, reflective practice and evidence-based knowledge
  • Supervise, support and contribute to the development of staff and students
  • Maintain accurate, timely and confidential records and contribute to service development and quality improvement

  • NMC registered

  • Substantial experience of collaborative multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working

  • Additional specialist knowledge and expertise (equivalent to diploma level) in ADHD/ASD/LD
  • Proven ability to apply evidence-based clinical interventions
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the individual needs of children and their families
  • Effective use of information technology
  • Extensive knowledge of the emotional, psychological, developmental and social needs of children and young people with learning disabilities
  • Ability to evaluate clinical effectiveness
  • Understanding of non-verbal communication systems and their use with children and young people
  • Accurate, timely and concise recording
  • Thorough understanding of the Common Assessment Framework
  • Ability to work in partnership with other providers e.g., Education, Social Care
