Clinical Lead in Specialist Palliative Care

Job summary

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Lead in Specialist Palliative Care, on a fixed-term basis for 12 months.

The post holder will work closely with the Community Specialist Palliative Care Nurses, and the Priscilla Bacon Lodge inpatient unit, acting as an ambassador for clinical excellence, and providing professional and clinical leadership for both teams.

The post would suit candidates who have an extensive background and experience in palliative and end of life care, as well as a high standard of professionalism, strong leadership skills, and experience of working to improve services to promote good quality, safe, and effective patient-centered care.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be an ambassador for clinical excellence by maintaining their own specialist training, development, and expertise so that they can provide professional and clinical leadership to the team.

You will be responsible for the supervision, training, and clinical skills competency sign-off of staff working within both teams.

You will support the teams' caseload of complex patients and undertake ad-hoc clinical work on the inpatient unit on a regular basis, , in order to support service delivery and maintain high standards of clinical practice.

You will promote excellent standards of clinical care in the team through continual service improvement arising from supervision and training strategies, competency frameworks, and learning from incidents, complaints, audits, and outcome measure data.

You will act as a clinical representative for the service in both internal and external clinical development meetings and forums.

You will promote high standards of palliative and end of life care across our local network of providers by acting as a specialist resource and contributing to the delivery of formal and informal training and education.

  • Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC register
  • Relevant degree or diploma in nursing or other health related subject
  • Relevant post-registration qualification in palliative care/oncology
  • Relevant teaching qualification or relevant experience.

  • Relevant MSc in nursing or other health related subject or willingness to work towards.
  • Relevant post-registration qualification in non-medical prescribing or working towards.
  • Post-registration qualification in palliative care/oncology
