Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and innovative Physiotherapist to join our Specialist Palliative Care team. You will be joining a friendly and dynamic inter-disciplinary team who support patients who are in the palliative phase of illness.
You will be supported in gaining skills in advanced clinical reasoning/problem solving as well as skills in complex Specialist Palliative Care assessment/intervention. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to discuss assessment/interventions empathetically with service users, relatives and carers is critical to this role.
You will be based at Priscilla Bacon Hospice working across the inpatient and day therapies services.
You will be supported in clinical leadership and development and will gain experience working with colleagues across the Specialist Palliative Care Pathway.
Main duties of the job
- To work as part of an interdisciplinary specialist palliative care team to provide high quality specialist physiotherapy assessments and treatments, to allow patients in the palliative phase of illness to achieve their optimal level of function.
- To conduct holistic assessment, and the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based treatment programmes for patients in the palliative phase of illness who may have a range of complex health needs.
- Contribute to service development and data collection within Specialist Palliative Care Services.

- To attend and contribute to relevant interdisciplinary meetings and client reviews as appropriate.
- Being alongside patients approaching the end of live, providing emotional support to patients and families with support from psychological services and senior colleagues.
- To liaise with and support the wider team on discharge of patients from the service, when agreed objectives have been reached, or treatment is no longer appropriate. This may require planned referral onto other appropriate agencies/services.
- To provide supervision to junior members of the therapy team and act as a practice educator to students.
- To provide supervision and specialist advice to other members of the interdisciplinary team, community colleagues and service users.
