Job summary

The Warehouse Driver/Fitter Technician provides a delivery, collection, installation, and exchange service for community equipment across the Trusts area. The role involves driving Trust vehicles safely, planning routes, and working either independently or as part of a twoperson team to handle, fit, adjust, or dismantle equipmentoften heavy or awkwardwithin service users homes.

This is an exciting opportunity for the postholder to join an existing team. The postholder will get the opportunity to participate and undertake visual risk assessments, ensure safe use of equipment, follows manufacturers instructions, and gives clear guidance to clients and carers.

The role includes maintaining vehicle cleanliness and safety checks, liaising with clients, carers, and equipment stores, and reporting issues or safeguarding concerns. When required, the technician supports warehouse tasks such as stock control, decontamination, maintenance checks, and frontdesk duties. Adherence to Health & Safety, infection control, information governance, and Trust policies is essential.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role will be to:

  • Deliver, collect, assemble and remove community equipment in service users homes.
  • Drive Trust vehicles safely, plan routes efficiently and maintain vehicle cleanliness and basic checks.
  • Work independently or as part of a twoperson team depending on the size and complexity of equipment.
  • Carry out basic risk assessments in the home to ensure equipment is suitable and safe.
  • Install and adjust equipment correctly and explain its use clearly to clients and carers.
  • Use handheld devices to record deliveries, collections, signatures and equipment details accurately.
  • Communicate politely and sensitively with clients, carers and colleagues throughout the day.
  • Report any concerns, issues, incidents or safeguarding matters promptly to the line manager.
  • Keep equipment secure, ensure vehicle contents are protected, and follow loneworking procedures.
  • Support warehouse operations when required, including stock handling, acceptance testing, equipment cleaning, and frontdesk tasks.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures and adhere to Trust policies on safety, infection control, confidentiality and data quality.

To agree priorities for own work area with your Line Manager.

To drive Trust vehicles

To work as a single person in the delivery and/or collection of equipment appropriate for one person to safely manage independently and provide installation/assembly as is required.

To undertake a visual risk assessment in the clients home to ensure safe lifting, fitting and on-going use of the equipment.

To undertake strict equipment handover procedures with clients/carers, including the adjustment and/or installation of items, in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. Give clear instruction in the use of the equipment.

To deliver/collect equipment with consideration of client/carers needs providing a timed/scheduled visit when necessary to co-ordinate with others.

To use the route planning facility for the delivery/collection of equipment, taking into consideration delivery instructions. Taking into consideration delivery instructions to ensure optimum use of allotted time and route.

To drive Trust vehicles in a safe and careful manner, to be able to navigate across the Trusts geographical footprint, using satnav or own knowledge of the designated borough.

To be responsible for the care of the vehicles including cleaning, completing safety checks/maintenance (oil, water, tyre checks) on hand held devices and reporting faults to line manager.

To be responsible for the security of the vehicle and its contents by ensuring the vehicle remains locked when the post holder leaves the vehicle for any reason, eg collecting /delivering of equipment at clients home.

To be in contact with the equipment stores by mobile phone during the day as required and in accordance with lone working policy.

To communicate with clients and carers in a sensitive and courteous manner both face to face and on the phone.

Ensure clients and carers are provided with manufacturers instructions for use, and information in regard to the Community Equipment Stores, and an emergency contact number in case of an equipment failure outside normal working hours.

Ensue a signature and date either by the client or carer is collected on the hand held device to keep the Stores IT system up to date.

To maintain records, both manual and computerised to Trust standards, verifying the accuracy of equipment codes and delivery areas, respond to information logged on handheld devices.

To treat and store confidential information in line with information governance policy.

To be conversant with the services computer system and to demonstrate competence in the use of handheld devices.

To be responsible for the correct completion and data input on the handheld devices.

To be responsible for own workload that is issued each day, to support providing a quality service to users.
