Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Occupational Therapist to join our Childrens Therapy Services in Halton. This exciting post is a developmental role and as an Apprentice OT the successful candidate will work towards successful completion of the Occupational Therapy Degree Apprenticeship programme at UCLan. Completion of this program will lead to a permanent Band 5 OT position in the Trust.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to work within the Childrens Therapy Team alongside our qualified AHP team while attending university 1 day per week. The apprentice will also undertake placements with other OT Teams at Bridgwater and with other Organisations over the duration of the 3 year programme.

The apprentice will have to be able to manage a mix of academic study, clinical placements and work the rest of the time within the team as part of the support workforce.

Main duties of the job

The Childrens Therapy service is based at Woodview Child Development Centre in Widnes and the service aim to provide a high-quality physiotherapy and occupational therapy service to meet the needs of children and young people. The service work to support and develop self-management and independence of a child or young person in their everyday activities at home, in education and in their community.

The successful candidate will be provided the necessary learning and development opportunities whilst also contributing to service delivery by undertaking autonomous duties, after sufficient training, as part of the teams support workforce.

The degree apprenticeship programme combines and integrates both academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and education providers. The post holder will be a trainee OT and will be completing a BSc (Hons) degree in Occupational Therapy with academic element of the apprenticeship being provided by UCLAN.

A strong candidate would ideally have knowledge and understanding of the role of an Occupational Therapist and preferably have some experience of working as a therapy assistant/support worker. To ensure joint / multiagency working occurs where appropriate, with health colleagues and partner agencies, attending reviews and clinical meetings as required by clinical responsibility

To undertake joint assessments and interventions with therapy colleagues where clinically appropriate.

To actively prepare and plan for supervision.
